Introduction

With Tim.
We also opened the Coravined remnants of the 2003 Musar, but it had disintegrated into appley-figgy oxidation.

  • 2010 Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay Art Series 91 Points

Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River

The second-most impressive Chardonnay I've had from Australia (the '10 Voyager Estate was amazing!).

    Medium yellow.
Slightly reductive (lees stirring? winemaking?) moderate intensity nose. Clean, well-integrated, with a gorgeous streak of fresh tangerine (slightly milky) threading through the midpalate. Slight vanilla and pale caramel on the palate - very well-melded oak. Medium body, slightly elevated alcohol (I guessed 13.5%, actually 14% and holding it well) and elevated acidity.

The overall impression is light and vibrant, youthful, and uncomplicated. The cool tangerine note is delightful.

    Score: Around 9.

  • 2007 Paolo Bea Montefalco Sagrantino Secco Pagliaro 96 Points

    Italy, Umbria, Montefalco, Montefalco Sagrantino

Still amazing. Today it showed more cumin herbal notes, anise, black licorice, and orange peel. Still powerful, integrated, complex, and dynamic in the glass.
    Score: around 9.5
