    very brief tasting note. tasted towards the end of the session so no extensive notes. the nose was very full and ripe.

  • 2013 Château Cantemerle

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

    brief tasting note. nose of black raspberry. very good acid on this wine, med+. med finish with greater persistence than some of the other haut medocs; one of the highlights here.

    brief tasting note. floral nose of violet, with good spice elements. med+, and flavors of coffee and dark chocolate. a good wine for the vintage.

  • 2013 Château Lascombes

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    brief tasting note. very approachable today, with med acid. nose of violet, with flavors of graphite, coffee, and earth. med body, med+ finish. less tannic than expected, this was one of my favorite reds of the vintage.

    brief tasting note. nose of ripe blue fruits (blueberry). full bodied, med. acid, med- finish. 90% merlot, 10% cabernet sauvignon in this vintage; one of the highlights of the vintage in red.

  • 2013 Château La Tour Carnet

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

    very brief tasting note. nose of black fruits (dark plum). strong in most vintages i've tasted, this wine had good concentration. predominantly merlot, with cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot filling out the blend.

    very brief tasting note. nose has nice baking spice. less tannic than i expected, with flavors of graphite and also some spice. good.

    brief tasting note. nose of spice box with some floral elements as well. med acid. less tannic than previously noted, less expressive than in previous vintages as might be expected. good.

  • 2013 Château Léoville Barton

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

    brief tasting note. nose was easily the most expressive of all the reds tasted today, with black and blue fruits in spades; flavors of the same. med acid, and less tannic than might be expected. the vintage featured a higher percentage of cabernet than usual (82%).

    brief tasting note. cabernet nose is more evident here, with a slightly green/vegetal note. this was dense and will need some time to open up. a good effort for the vintage; my notes say "bruiser".

    brief tasting note. very expressive nose of coffee/espresso. just a touch vegetal, likely owing to the large portion of cabernet sauvignon in the blend. flavors of the same, and also some graphite. med- finish. a good effort in the vintage.

    brief tasting note. very expressive nose, some vegetal notes. full flavors including baking spice and fig; med+ body with very good concentration. one of the highlights in st julien for the vintage.

    brief tasting note. sweeter than the other 2 offerings tasting, the concentration here was very good. lots of tropical fruit and high acidity.

  • 2013 Château Guiraud

    brief tasting note. nose was explosive with honey, tropical fruits (lychee/mango). palate was very well-rounded and perfectly balanced and included flavors of the same with racy acidity. wonderful concentration. the personal highlight for sauternes/barsac in this vintage.

    brief tasting note. sitting somewhere in between guiraud and suduiraut in many aspects, this was a very enjoyable effort with a very long life ahead. very expressive nose included vanilla, some nuttiness, with flavors of the same.
