Sherry Dinner - mind blown...liver may be as well

Thank you to Jay C for organizing this and to all for making it a night i am sure wont be easily forgotten ;)
These are brief notes - because conversation was fun and the food (Pings) quite delicious.
I must say - all the wines showed well but there were a few that really stood out.

• NV Gonzalez-Byass Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Fino Tres Palmas 92 Points

  Spain, Andalucía, Jerez-Xérès-Sherry

  Richer style, almost toward amontillado in color - deep yellow/orange. nutty with just a hint of the yeast. creamy in the mid with rich salty/savory finish. while not what i would usually think of as Fino - this is very good indeed.

  this was my least favorite of the night. light, with white wine notes and a bit of citrus. missing that really salty fresh feel of the fino. bit of brine on the finish. not showing well.

  my second time drinking this. amazing "Fino" - nose is an ocean breeze, with sea shells and salt and a nutty spice. full blown monster in the mid - complex and rich, writhing on the palate. almonds on the finish. def my fav of the "flight".

  wow. rich mahogany color. tofee, sweet fig, deeply sexy, complex mid shimmering with brightness and velvety rich fruit and nut layers. just amazing. What keeps this from being a Palo Cortado? just amazing wine.

  very unique. dry fruit, muted orange in color. nuts and figs in the mid along with orange/apricot. floral. long finish with figs and caramel. quite delicious and rather unusual. drinks fresh and light for the style.

  WOTN. should add more points for being a birthyear wine :) ..but even without that, incredible. bitter oranges, almonds, deeply aromatic, enchanting notes of sweet fruit. mid is rich and yet keeps a lightness. unending finish.

  this is unique and quite interesting. citrus, sweet fruit on the nose with some herbs. nice mid with a balance of fruit and herbs as well as a sherry/nutty feel. would love to try again when i havent just had a ton of sherry!

  wow. this is always a stunner. honestly - take every possible fruit descriptor. put in a blender. add some mint and herbs. there ya go. oh - and the acidity and the finish and and and this is damn awesome.
