Introduction

Every participant had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought by the others. All wines were tasted blind, also without knowing when the wine you brought was poured.

Flight 2 (3 Notes)

  • 2006 Pierre André au Château de Corton André Corton-Charlemagne 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Fairly dark yellow. The bouquet is a bit reticent, but there is good complexity, mild yellow fruits and good vanilla from the oak. On the palate full bodied with luxurious oak, caramel, but also concentrated tropical fruits like pineapple. Elegant acidity. Great length. A beautiful wine. Early maturity now and no problem keeping this until 2017+

  • 2005 Roux Père & Fils Corton-Charlemagne 87 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Bouquet with minerals, ripe apples and a bit later also oxidized impressions. On the palate ripe apples as well, tart citrus, nuts and bitterness. Premox? Not really bad.

  • 2003 Rapet Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Mostly yellow fruits in the bouquet. On the palate the pleasant sweet start is evident, followed by pleasant soft acidity, tropical fruits, apple syrup and some good bitterness. Overall a beautiful and complex wine. Ready now, no hurry.

  • 2009 Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

The bouquet offers slightly sparkling cherry flavors in the beginning followed by earthy impressions and some development. The palate is a bit dusty with also juicy red fruits, earthiness and a good concentration. Good acidity and youthful tannin and some drying bitterness. Needs a bit more time. Probably best between approx. 2016 and 2018

  • 2007 Louis Jadot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

Carmine red brown. The bouquet is a bit rusty and spicy. On the palate juicy red fruits like strawberries. Ok acidity and silky soft, completely melted tannin. No extremely complex but certainly a very, very pleasant easy going Burgundy. I am a bit surprised about the drinking window in CT, because, although no real hurry, this bottle was completely ready.

  • 1999 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

Remarkably dark blood red with a slightly carmine rim. I did not make any notes about the bouquet, but on the palate it is full bodied, round and juicy with also some licorice like laurel, still firm and a bit grainy tannin. A bit drying and also still juicy. A very tasty wine with good complexity and a future of at least 5+ years.

  • 2003 Jean-Claude Belland Corton-Clos de la Vigne au Saint 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Beautiful and complex bouquet with minerals and red forest fruits. On the palate berries, mushrooms, coffee, beautiful acidity and soft, integrated tannin. A beautiful and complete wine and at its peak now.

  • 2002 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Bressandes 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

The bouquet is very special and different, more sweet, than you would expect from a Burgundy wine. On the palate in fact the same. Remarkably much sweetness, mild acidity and soft tannin, which still shows some future, To be honest; I don't know what to think. Definitely a very pleasant wine, but tasted completely blind beside some other (and a bit cheaper) Burgundy wines it did not show much extra, but certainly something different.

  • 2001 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Maréchaudes 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Beautiful Burgundy bouquet with cherries, raspberries and some earthy impressions. On the palate juicy fruits, some earthy impressions, some spiciness and a touch of sweetness. Ok acidity and mild tannin. A pleasant and easy going wine, but not really delivering as expected/hoped for.

  • 1999 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Bressandes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

No notes about the bouquet, but on the palate the wine did not seem to be a 100% clean. Not corked, but not sure what exactly was wrong with it. I could make some notes however: Minerals, sweet and acidic candy flavors . Very special, hard to describe, and with a long finish. I understand this is not a very useful note, but it is the best I can do. The wine was not really unpleasant, but not completely clean. I don't score it, but my note might explain the big differences in scores in CT.
