We knew it would be a Clos des Papes vertical, but we did not know the other wines.
All wines were poured blind.
Beautiful bouquet with ripe yellow fruits, flowers and a light dose of vanilla. Same on the palate with some white fruits as well, beautiful acidity, a touch of sweetness and some pleasant bitterness in the finish. A refined wine.

Luxurious bouquet with ripe and soft yellow fruits and beautifully dosed oak. On the palate also a luxurious wine with beautifully soft and ripe yellow fruits, luxurious oak, a touch of sweetness and beautiful acidity. Full bodied and a bit fat in a pleasant way. Great wine!

Extremely beautiful and expressive bouquet with good cherries and red berries, garrigue and elegance. Impressive! On the palate a beautiful wine which shows early maturity, an enormous amount of beautiful herbs and spices, good fruits, beautiful acidity and lovely tannin which is soft, but also still has a firm bite and a lot of future. An extremely elegant wine with complexity and finesse. A feast already and probably until well into the 2020’s.

Beautiful bouquet with good fruits, garrigue, smoke and some toast. On the palate juicy red berry fruits like raspberries and also cherries. Good acidity and bitterness. The tannin is still a bit sticky and drying in the finish. A beautiful and elegant wine in its young maturity stage.

Youthful bouquet with red berries like raspberries and cherries as well as good garrigue. On the palate the same juicy fruits and garrigue, beautiful acidity and tannin with still a pleasant and very good bite. Not extremely concentrated, but certainly complex and beautiful. Wait until 2020+. 91 - 92

This is a great and beautifully mature wine now with in the bouquet red berries, garrigue, minerals, smoke, tobacco and a pleasant touch of barnyard. On the palate still ripe red berry fruits, garrigue, earth, beautiful acidity and still slightly sticky, very good tannin. Great length! A wonderful wine to drink now and the next 3+ years.

In the bouquet very ripe dark and red berry fruits and good garrigue. On the palate a concentrated very juicy wine with very ripe fruits as well, garrigue, good acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Definitely a very good wine, but it seems to be a bit out of balance at this moment. Waiting until 2020 at least is probably a wise thing to do. I scored it 92 for this moment, but it wouldn’t surprise me if in 5 years time this will be 95(+) again.

In the bouquet good fruits, garrigue and some rustic flavors. On the palate juicy fruits like red berries and cherries, beautiful acidity and tannin with still a firm bite. This wine is still in its puberty stage and not showing yet what it has in store, but there is a promise for the future. 93++ for this evening. Would like to taste this again around 2021+. Probably a 95+ wine by then.

This 2000 is a beautiful and mature wine which still has red and dark berry fruits in the bouquet. Of course beautiful garrigue as well. On the palate ripe dark berries, a lot of good garrigue, beautiful acidity and also beautiful and mild tannin. This is a lovely wine right now and even though the alcohol shows a little bit in the finish this wine definitely deserves a score of 93 at least.

A beautiful, refined and elegant bouquet with still some fruits, garrigue and tea (in the good sense). On the palate a beautiful and soft wine with still some soft fruits, extremely beautiful garrigue and acidity. Beautifully soft tannin with still a silky bite. This wine is completely ready now and showing all it has in store and that is great. Superb wine! Drink now or the next 2 – 3 years to have maximum pleasure.

Beautiful bouquet with good fruits, garrigue as well as some smoke and toast. Same on the palate; beautiful fruits and herbs and spices as well as good acidity and tannin which is already pleasantly soft, but also has enough bite to last until well into the 2020’s. Great wine!

In the bouquet beautifully ripe fruits and garrigue. On the palate a sweet start with beautifully ripe dark berry fruits, beautiful garrigue, lovely acidity and soft and round tannin with still a pleasant bite. This wine is a beauty already and will be a feast for probably another decade. 95 – 96!

The bouquet shows fresh red berry fruits like raspberries and beautiful garrugue. On the palate very juicy and ripe good berries, some smoke and minerals. More easy going than the other wine in the flight (which appeared to be the 2012), but certainly a great wine. Lovely and complex already in this early stage. Good acidity and round tannin which promises a future until well into the 2020’s. Great wine, but in this young and fresh stage not mind blowing. Nevertheless a score of 93 is not too high for this moment.

In the bouquet dark and red berry fruits and cherries as well as good garrigue. On the palate very juicy fruits, good acidity and beautiful, slightly sticky tannin. This wine is still too young, but definitely holding a promise and more potential than the 2011. Good complexity. Probably wise to wait until 2021 or later. 94+ for today.

Beautiful and concentrated bouquet with red and dark berries and cherries and good garrigue. On the palate beautiful fruits and garrigue, very good fresh acidity and round but firm tannin. Because of its freshness already a pleasure to drink, but in fact this wine is still much too young. 95+++ for this evening, but I am almost certain this wine will score several points higher when it is more ready to drink. Around 2024 or later….?

In the bouquet very ripe red and dark berries, cherries and good garrigue. On the palate extremely ripe fruits, good acidity and tannin with still a good bite. There is just a little bit of heat in the finish. Overall this certainly is a great wine with still a great future. With some more age on it and if the alcohol does not become too dominating the score might go up a few points. I have a few, so there will be a follow up on this TN. For this evening 94 – 95+.

In the bouquet beautifully ripe red and dark forest fruits, cherries, garrigue and some pleasant rustic impressions. On the palate the same very ripe fruits, herbs and spices, good acidity and soft and round tannin with still a pleasant and soft bite. Full bodied and concentrated wine. The wine is completely ready now and will stay on this level for several years. Until 2020 at least. Overall this 2003 was, together with the 2006 the best wine of the evening, for the moment of tasting. The 2003 because it is perfectly ready now and the 2006 because of its freshness and lovely bite. But it could well be some of the younger vintages might score even higher than 96 when they become of age.

Concentrated bouquet with a lot of dark berries and cherries, garrigue and iodine. On the palate juicy dark forest fruits, herbs and spices, beautiful acidity and good tannin with still a very good bite so it can last until well into the 2020’s. A truly great wine! 94 – 95+

A very beautiful, refined and elegant bouquet with red forest fruits and a lot of lovely garrigue. Same impressions on the palate, beautiful acidity, soft tannin and some autumn impressions. Maximum refinement and elegance. Great C9duP!!! Incomparable with all the others, but so great! Completely ready now and the next 3+ years.

In the bouquet sweet and ripe dark and red forest fruits and good garrigue. On the palate a sweet start with ripe red and dark berries, herbs and spices, good acidity and soft but powerful tannin. Very full bodied and extracted. An enormous wine. Starting to show its beauty now, but there is a lot of future as well. No problem keeping this until 2020+.

Unfortunately I did not make many notes about this wine. I did wrote down that it has an elegant bouquet with red berries and a lot of garrigue. The same on the palate with good acidity. 92 – 93 but in fact I would like to taste the wine again and make more proper notes.

This must be a flawed bottle because there was alcohol and acetone in the bouquet. Same on the palate, Port like. Some green impressions as well. The last bottle of the tasting and it should have been the best with the perfect Parker score. A disappointment, but these things happen… We had a great tasting anyway!!!

Beautiful and concentrated bouquet with apricots, tangerine, orange zest and botrytis. On the palate all impressions return; beautiful sweetness and great fresh citrus acidity. Great length. A great wine with a long future ahead.
