  • NV Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Pétillant Brut 86 Points

France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray Pétillant

Tasting at Domaine Foreau/Clos Naudin with Phillippe Foreau. Lot L2011. Labelled as a non-vintage but is actually a single vintage wine. The middle 2 digits represent the vintage ( 2001 in this case ) and the final digit represents the lot number from that vintage when there is more than 1. When deemed worthy, this is released as “Brut Reserve” with the vintage noted. The last Reserve release was 1995 and 2002 is next ( probable release date of late 2008 ). Pale gold in
color, this had a very active mousse. There is good acidity, maybe a touch too strong. Medium bodied with lots of lemon and grapefruit. A medium length finish. 50+11+11+7+7=86

  • 2005 Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Demi-Sec 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Tasting at Domaine Foreau/Clos Naudin with Phillippe Foreau. From a bottle opened 4/21. Pale gold with some green highlights. Shows the great depth of 2005, which Phillippe expressed mathematically as ( 1985 + 1989 ) / 2. Lots of acidity. Very ripe peaches, pineapples and generally acidic fruits. Nice minerality. 50+12+12+8+8=90+

  • 2005 Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Demi-Sec 92 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Tasting at Domaine Foreau/Clos Naudin with Phillippe Foreau. From a freshly opened bottle. Phillippe wanted to show the difference and prove his theory that his young wines drink best in a “pop and pour” fashion. He is not a fan of decanting or slow oxygenation. He also recommends serving his wines at 9degC, a bit colder than my usual preference. This bottle had a much longer finish and was more focused in every regard. Give this bottle 10-15 years and it will be magic.

  • 2005 Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Moelleux 94 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Tasting at Domaine Foreau/Clos Naudin with Phillippe Foreau. From a bottle opened 4/21. This was a very delicate wine with a very pretty balance to it. Young but drinking very well at the moment. 60 g/l residual sugar but no botrytis so the flavors were very clean and clear. 50+13+13+9+9=94

  • 2003 Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Moelleux 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Tasting at Domaine Foreau/Clos Naudin with Phillippe Foreau. From a bottle opened 4/25. Medium yellow in color this wine was an interesting contrast of vintages against the 2005. Tasting a little roasted and a lot heavier than the 2005. Seems to be a very nice Moelleux to drink over the short to medium term. Phillippe believes a pairing with foie gras will best show off this wine. 50+12+12+8+8=90

  • 1995 Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Moelleux 94 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Tasting at Domaine Foreau/Clos Naudin with Phillippe Foreau. From a freshly opened bottle. This was a treat to try as we have some of this and the '95 Moelleux Reserve in our cellar. Medoium gold in color, this was a very delicate wine filled with sea salt, truffles and other elegant aromas and flavors. The finish is very long. Surprisingly, Phillippe feels this only has another 5-7 years at peak. 50+13+13+9+9=94

  • 1989 Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Moelleux Réserve 97 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

Tasting at Domaine Foreau/Clos Naudin with Phillippe Foreau. When Phillippe disappeared to the cellar one last time we were shocked, as well as very appreciative, when he returned with a fresh bottle of this gem to open. Bright shiny gold in the glass, this was an amazing elixir. 150 g/l residual sugar but a perfect integration and balance. Such a complete wine that words are difficult. A wow wine or as the locals would say “un vin extrordinaire!” Phillippe says this wine has 50+ more
years of great drinking ahead of it and this bottle certainly makes that case well. A bottle of this made it's way home with us but the other bottle Phillippe sold us was the real event of the day. More on that in a few months. 50+14+14+9.5+9.5=97
