France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Small glass, brief note. Floral with ripe apple and nuanced spice. Great depth, excellent overall. So good now that I wouldn't cellar much longer given the inherent risks.
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
Small glass, brief note. Ripe and somewhat opulent start with stone fruit, followed by a leaner middle and finish with better restraint and balance. Good.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Small glass, brief note. Dense and powerful maturing orchard fruit with some lemon peel. Slightly more mature than I would prefer, so I preferred the Lafon 2004 Perrieres tasted earlier.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Small glass, brief note. From magnum. From the domaine. Lemon, lemon peel, lime peel aromas with spice and great summer flowers. Powerful palate with great energy and brightness from intense acidity and minerality that comes across as perfectly integrated. My top wine at lunch.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Small glass, brief note. Magnum directly from the domaine. Apple and pear aromas, flavors with minerality and acidity in wonderful balance. Very good right now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Small glass, brief note. One of my favorites at lunch. Incredibly charming aromas, flavors, spice, earth and mushroom. Pristine for its age. Thanks, Omar!
Served alongside the 1962. Both bottles were purchased and consumed in Beaune, so most likely had never left Burgundy in its life. Dense and meaty with plenty of black earth and earthiness. Ullage approx 2.5 cm. More concentrated vs the 1962, but with a more mature, slightly sweet finish. Wonderful concentration and both had unfolding nuance for the brief period I was able to keep them in my glass. Group was mixed re which they preferred, slightly favoring the 1959.
Served alongside the 1959. Both bottles were purchased and consumed in Beaune, so most likely had never left Burgundy in its life. Dense and meaty with plenty of black earth and earthiness. Ullage approx 3.5-4 cm. Less concentrated vs the 1959, but a fresher and more savory finish. Incredibly elegant. Both vintages showed unfolding layers of nuance for the 15-20 minutes I was able to keep them in glass. Group was mixed re which they preferred, slightly favoring the 1959.
Verified as an authentic label by Jadot despite "Grand Cru" being shown on the label, which was not particularly uncommon for wines considered Tete de Cuvee back in the day, even if technically not then permitted.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
Small glass, brief note. Black fruit, great spice, great concentration. consistent with prior notes. would certainly have benefited from less toasty outdoor dining conditions.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Small glass, brief note. Magnum directly from the domaine. Another wine that would have benefited from less tropical outdoor dining conditions in Beaune. Ripe red cherry and berry with very good density. Aromatically forward and engaging, then more firm and slightly backward on palate. Very good now, better after 2020.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Small taste, brief note. Rich and fat, this is holding up very nicely for its age and the vintage. Slightly low energy, but very good concentration has served it well. Very good now, perhaps not quite as exciting as a bottle from a few years ago.
NV Delamotte Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 89 Points
France, Champagne
From magnum. Very refreshing and easy to enjoy on a hot summer day in Beaune, getting ready for lunch al fresco.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Rich and almost opulent, but with the structure to maintain wonderful restraint. Good now, upside going forward, a rarity for the vintage.

2013 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Small glass, brief note. Atypical for Raveneau, but unfortunately faintly showing the botrytis and related challenges of the vintage.
