From magnum. Ripe aromas and flavors. Baked apple and some stone fruit hints. Ripeness is well served by a somewhat austere, energetic texture that will need another year or two to rattle fewer teeth. I would consider this a more medium-term cellar wine, probably best 2018-2028 given the ripeness.

Nicely floral and spice aromas. More tropical than I usually expect from Pernot, but with the right acidity and mineral textures middle forward to maintain balance. Good already now.

Dark color. Mostly past its peak, with some lingering oily essence that was able to pique a hint of interest.

Nicely maturing black fruit that I liked a lot to start with cigarbox and spice. Faded quickly in glass, losing interest after 10 minutes. I preferred this over 1981 to start, but the latter was better after 10 or 15 minutes.

Mature black currant and cigarbox with moderate depth and length. Nicely balanced. Easy to enjoy. A pleasant surprise given the vintage.

Moderate fruit and weight with some rugged structure, resulting in very imperfect balance. I've never been a big fan of this wine in this vintage, but this was less interesting than usual.

Simple but nicely balance and maturing elegantly.

Pristine bottle, fill well into the neck. Mature black cherry and plum with earth, green pepper and cigarbox hints. Moderate depth and length. Impeccable balance. Wonderful for the vintage.

Also didn't thrill me. Rugged throughout, but with reasonably powerful fruit, just awkward and seemingly needing more time in the cellar.

Best bottle of this I have had in several years. Lots of power and concentration, while still showed reserve. A wine that would benefit from a full evening of attention.

Nicely mature with black fruit and woodsy spice. On the back nine.

Similar to previous bottles, just a little less of everything. Not the most consistent wine, but tonight's was very good, but not at the "95 point" level of the best bottles in recent years.

Bigger fruit than the 1982 GL, but less nuance and just moderate depth for the vintage. Still, certainly very good.

Lots of big, bold fruit slowly maturing, but with structure still slightly more than the flavors' equal (those darn 1986s). I liked this a lot, while others liked it more.

Much like that 2nd bottle of this same wine opened earlier at the tasting. Enjoyable, but certainly time to drink up.

I was so exciting when I thought I heard we were concluding with 1997 Quinta do Noval. Darn, one letter off. Still nice and tasty, even if more sweet than nuanced, so somewhat one dimensional.

Tasting, brief note. Fresh black plum with a hint of cigar. slightly coarse start, more elegant finish. good value wine. Probably better in a year or two, but not much longer.

2000 Château Gruaud Larose Sarget de Gruaud Larose 85 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Tasting, brief note. First bottle tasted had been open most of the day and was tired well beyond any expectation for a 2000, even at this level. 2nd bottle was popped and poured and showed nicely mature, quite tasty black fruit with good balance and weight. Still, time to drink up now.

Tasting, brief note. rich and forward start, but moderate depth and concentration. Cellar a few more years, then good for medium term enjoyment.

2010 Château Gruaud Larose 92 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Tasting, brief note. Easily the wine of the tasting. Moderately ripe, showing black berry, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate and cassis. I tasted this twice and it kept changing/ unfolding in interesting ways. Definitely worth seeking out at its current price.

1995 Château Gruaud Larose
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Tasting, brief note. An odd wine. Spice, cigar box, firm black fruit aromas i really liked. Less appealing flavors, coming across more tired. I'm told a 2nd bottle was less interesting. Odd today.
