The theme was white wines. There were a few extra's. All wines were tasted fully blind.

• NV Varnier-Fanniere Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée "Jean Fannière Origine" 91 Points

  France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

  Very fresh and yeasty bouquet. Good toast and brioche. On the palate focused, rich, minerals, smoky and firm citrus. The wine starts not extremely complex, but unfolds nicely and becomes more refined and complex a bit later.

  In the bouquet flowers, anise and caramel. On the palate firm citrus, tropical fruits, good acidity and some bitterness in the finish.

• 2012 Tement Sauvignon Blanc Grosse Lage STK Zieregg

  Austria, Styria, Südsteiermark

  Special Sauvignon Blanc with flowers, minerals and grasses in the bouquet. On the palate a round and buttery mouth feel with firm acidity. Not sure what to think. Very interesting but it needs more time in the bottle. No score for the moment.

  In the bouquet minerals, smoke and butter. On the palate a firm amount of green apples, citrus acidity, a bit fat, a touch of sweetness, some bitterness in the finish. Ok wine.

  Beautiful bouquet with tropical fruits, oranges, some sweetness and petrol. On the palate the same impressions, also apricots and honey. Mild acidity. Beautiful and elegant wine with a good concentration.

  In the bouquet white fruits like pear and peach, grasses and fresh citrus. On the palate green apples, fresh citrus again, focused and a firm amount of acidity. Some grapefruit in the finish. Still very youthful. 90+

  Beautiful bouquet with good minerality, white tropical fruits and vanilla. On the palate good citrus acidity and beautiful oak. No more notes, but this is a beautiful wine with a future of several years.

  This wine was popped and poured and that did not serve the wine right. The bouquet was locked and showed red berries and sour cherries. On the palate very primary flavors, red berries, some earth and highly acidic. At this moment not a pleasure at all. Wait for at least 3 – 5 years and give the wine a decant. No score for today.

• 2006 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli

  This wine was popped and poured and even though the wine is 10 years old, that was not a good idea. In the bouquet cherries, earth, smoke and mushrooms. On the palate earth, sour cherries, a firm amount of acidity and tannin which is still youthful and a bit unfriendly and very powerful. Tasting this PnP I would say wait another 10 years. I have a few, so there will be follow ups.
