Introduction

Just a quiet dinner with Mark and Keiko. Toad in the hole and salad and I had half a bottle of Croze Hermitage to finish and an Aussie Shiraz to try and Mark turned up with a CNdP so a good combination.

Flight 1 - Finished off on the 18th (1 Note)

As good as the night before, chalkiness came through again but I can forgive!

Wow a step up from the 05 which I bought at the same time. The clarity of the wine is almost like the crystal and catches the light as well. Balance is spot on with wonderful citrus fruit; pomelo, grapefruit, lemon and limes as well as granny smith apples. Piercing long finish with a hint of chalk which isn't really to my liking - seems to produce a hollow spot but this is wonderful.

Flight 2 - The reds! (3 Notes)

A good series of different but similar reds. Glad I've got more of the Seppelts, do I want more of the CH?

Wonderful deep purple colour. Nose has some floral violet notes and grilled meat. The palate is concentrated and powerful with fine but noticeable tannins. There's some decent fruit up front which dries out to leave a long muscular finish. Don't drink it yet!

This was soft and approachable with a good balance with fruit and a certain meatiness. Drank well with the toad in the hole.

  • 2004 Seppelt Shiraz St Peters 93 Points

    Australia, Victoria, Western Victoria, Grampians

Initial soft nose with dark fruits gives way to some white pepper and spice. Fine, structured tannins with a crisp acidity balance the fruit and a lovely long finish makes this a wonderful wine.
