  • 1997 Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Not decanted. Poured into shoulder and left to audouze for two hours. Consumed over the following two hours. Medium-dark ruby colour. Aromas of cedar, smoke, sottobosco, dark cherry, licorice, and cold espresso. Very powerful nose. Full-bodied, tannins are in check, showing more cedar, dark fruit, and raspberry notes. Moderate-long finish, ~40s, with cedar, sottobosco, and chalk notes. Still needs additional time in the cellar, but this wine could still garner a couple additional points. Really fantastic stuff! (93 pts.)
  • 2003 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Completely shut down right now. Tried upon opening, tried decanting - followed over 6-7 hours, and it didn't do a thing. Leave this wine buried deep in your cellar. NR.
  • 2002 K Vintners Syrah The Beautiful - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
Dark ruby/burgundy colour. Aromas of cream, crushed berries - currant, raspberry - bramble, red licorice, plums, alcohol, and just a hint of caramel. Medium-full bodied, with crushed berry fruit, confiture, cooked fruit/pie, mineral, and herbs. Moderate finish, ~30s, with red fruit. Nice stuff! (91 pts.)
  • 2001 Klein Constantia Vin de Constance - South Africa, Coastal Region, Constantia
Amber colour. Huge nose of honey, lychee, white flowers, alcohol, nuts, caramel, and lemon Pledge. Full-bodied, unctuous, with nectarine, peach, white flowers, honey, lemon, and jasmine. Great acidity to offset the sweetness. Moderate-long finish, with pineapple, peach, and lemon. Really interesting stuff. (92 pts.)
  • N.V. Alvear Pedro Ximénez Montilla-Moriles Solera 1927 - Spain, Andalucía, Montilla-Moriles
Brown colour. Aromas of walnuts, pecans, caramel, salt, chocolate, dates, and raisins. Full-bodied, unctuous, with coffee, molasses and nuts on the palate. Moderate-long finish that follows from the palate. (91 pts.)
