| | - 1995 Col d'Orcia (Cinzano) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Not decanted. Poured into shoulder and allowed to breathe for an hour. Dark ruby colour with black tinges. Aromas of black olive tapenade, black cherry, sottobosco, minerals, herbs/rosemary, and mint. Medium-full bodied, restrained, with mineral, sottobosco, leather, black cherry, and currant notes. Firm tannins, fantastic structure, and great acidity. Moderate-long finish, ~40s. This wine opened up nicely over the course of two hours. No rush on this wine, and I figure that I'll wait until 2010 to drink my last bottle. Fantastic stuff! 92+ points. (92 pts.)
- 2001 Campogiovanni (San Felice) Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Not decanted. Popped and poured; consumed over two hours. Medium-dark ruby colour. Juicy, brooding nose showing aromas of currant, minerals, black licorice, black plums, and a hint of raisin. Full-bodied, really juicy, with crushed red berry fruit, coffee, and plums. Very firm tannins. Moderate finish, ~35s, with minerals and red fruit. So very young - still showing lots of baby fat. This has plenty of potential, especially if the 1999 version is any indication. 91+ points. (91 pts.)
- 1999 Bell Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Clone 6 Baritelle - USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
Medium-dark ruby colour. Aromas of bell pepper, blueberry, salt, iodine, concentrated fruit juice. Medium-bodied, with iodine, bell pepper. Integrated tannins. A little green, but good texture. Short-moderate finish, ~20-25s, with red fruit. Disappointing compared to a previous bottle. (86 pts.)
- 2001 Alois Kracher Chardonnay/Welschriesling Grande Cuvée TBA #6 Nouvelle Vague - Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee
Amber colour. Huge nose of apricot, honey, vanilla, jasmine, nectarine, peach, and quince. Full-bodied, incredible unctuous, with fantastic texture. Peach nectar, honey, burnt marmalade, and bruleed sugar notes on the palate. Long finish, ~45-50s, with honey and peach nectar. (93 pts.)
