Introduction

As usual, a total hodgepodge, but I'd say this year the wines were better than usual.

  • 2003 Kongsgaard Chardonnay 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Medium yellow color. Forward sharp aroma of spicy yellow fruit and a hint mineral. rich tight yellow fruit with banana notes and just a bit of heat on the finish. 92-93 pts.

  • 2004 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 93 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

    Full ruby red color. Forward tight black cherry with spice. Huge tight black cherry with stinging nettle acidity. Seems much tighterthat it was on release, but opened up nicely with some air and rounded out quite a bit. 93-94 pts.

  • 2001 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 94 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

    Deep red cherry color. Medium dusty aroma of black fruit, licorice, black cherry cough drop. Nice round dusty earthy black fruit with nice spice and licorice. Lovely young brunello with good ripeness. 94-95 pts.

  • 2004 Brancaia Il Blu Toscana IGT 90 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

    Full ruby red color. Medium canned red bright fruit nose. Big tannic red fruit with a bit of spicy briar. Drying finish. May improve with time.

  • 2003 Château Léoville Barton 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

    Full deep red color. Lovely black fruit with graphite/pencil lead notes on the nose. Big tight black dustry fruit with more structure than other 03s I've had. Long fruity finish. Young but nice. 93-94 pts.

  • 2003 Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Don Melchor 92 Points

    Chile, Maipo Valley, Puente Alto

    Medium purple color. Forward sharp nose of red raspberry and spice - notes of lignified stems. Big bold ripe black fruit on a sturdy tannin/acid frame. Puckering, but not giving up all that much at this point.

  • 2003 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 95 Points

    USA, Washington

    Opaque purple color. Full nose of oaky red candied brown sugar fruit with some acidity. Very distinctive on the nose. Mmmnnn, big mouthful of ripe red raspberry and blueberry fruit on a firm but balanced frame.

  • 2004 Two Hands Shiraz Bella's Garden 93 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Deep opaque purple/red color. Big tight nose of ripe blueberry with smoke hints. Huge ripe red swwet cranberry on the palate. Almost haunting with spice and slight mocha on the finish. 93-94 pts.

  • 2003 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    Medium coffee red color. Forward ripe spicy floral cherry nose with briar notes and a hint of sweetness. Very ripe red raspberry with good mid palate energy. Long spicy finish.

  • 2003 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Full golden color. Lovely ripe sweet nose of yellow fruit with only a hint of the botry character. Superrich ripe trick sweet yellow fruit. Classic 03 ripe character. Some acidity, but pretty round pineapple. Ready to drink.
