Introduction
Jeff R. hosted this intro/retro at his lovely home in Northbrook. The meatballs were killer!
Overall this was fun and informative as I had little experience with Rafanelli prior to the tasting. At the end of the day though, I don't love most zins and the wines didn't really make my socks go up and down.
All wines blind as usual.
1999 A. Rafanelli Zinfandel 87 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley
Full opaque red/purple color. Big black fruit spicy aroma with hints of heat. Slight canned black fruit. Jammy with some coffee notes. 87-88 pts.

2000 A. Rafanelli Cabernet Sauvignon 92 Points

Full opaque black/red color. Big forward aroma of cedar red currant and green pepper. Big bold red sweet fruit with earth notes. Some green and eucalypus but well integrated.

Full opaque purple red color. Clean bright aroma of black fruit with hints of heat. Big bold spicy jammy black fruit with great pepper notes on the finish. 92-93 pts.

Full black red with some lightening. Big bold aroma of black currant, cedar, and green pepper. Mmmmn, nice rich round sweet black fruit with secondary notes. Very nice.

Full red crimson with some lightening. Medim spicy ripe black fruit aroma. Really nice blance rich round sweet red fruit with plenty of acidity. Fell apart pretty quickly with time - down into the mid 80s.

Full opaque red purple color. Huge ripe black fruit aroma with some spicy and heat. Fairly tight hot canned black fruit. Nothing much special here.

Full deep red color. Medium aroma of black cherry wit hsome heat. Big tight tannic black fruit on the palate. Searing long tannic finish. Could improve with time, but likely to always be hot.
