2005 Varner Chardonnay Spring Ridge Vineyard Home Block 93 Points
USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Golden color. Delicious, effusive nose has toast, rich melon, pear and spice. Palate has sweet pears, melon, minerals and spice. Big acid kick on the mid-palate. Long and penetrating finish. A classy wine. My #7, Group #4.

Golden color. Killer nose is rich and bold with has tropical, banana and citrus fruits aromas. A wow palate. Big time fruit is bold, toasty, rich and sweet. Minerals, lime and pear fruits on the palate. Long and oozing with richness. Tons of balancing acidity. Slutty. Delicious. My #1, Group #7.

2006 Aubert Chardonnay Lauren Estate Vineyard 94 Points

Pale gold color. Shy nose initially, opens up more and more with time. Palate is lush and focused with pears, minerals, spice and toast. Sweet fruit is well balanced with cutting acidity. Long with sweet pears and limes in the finish. My #3, Group #1.

Golden color. Full complex nose has rich fruit, minerals and earthy notes. Palate is well poised, with a classy richness. Flavors of sweet pear and oranges. Long finish. My #2, Group #2.

Gold color. Charming nose has toast, rich fruit, spice and minerals. Palate presents racy acidity and toasty citrus fruit. Needs time to integrate - only medium bodied fruit hasn't yet integrated the wood. My #8, Group #6.

Dark gold color. Rich, sweet nose has marshmallow, confectionery sugar, minerals, smoke and sweet spices. Big and rich on the palate with gobs of smoky fruit. Luscious and juicy across the mid-palate into a long finish. My #4, Group #3.

Gold color. Shy nose offers some earth, mineral and sour apple. Palate leads with bracing acidity with light bodied, waxy fruit following. Very subtle in the context of the line up. My #9, Group #10.

Dark gold in color. Nose gives away its age. Fuzzy, yet rich, fruit with minerals and matchstick. On the palate this belies its 13 years ... rich, toasty and bold white fruits. Nicely balanced. Round yet lively. Well done. My #6, Group #5.
