My fifth opportunity to try this wonderful wine and its best showing yet by a mile. Pale yellow in color. Tropical fruit nose. Pears, apple and lemon on the expansive palate. Perfectly balanced with very nice minerality and intensity. A super elegant and complex finish that lasts for minutes. Simply outstanding.
Golden yellow color. Doughy aromas. Tasting of apple, pear, lime and melon. Limestone minerality. Well balanced. Nice depth and complexity. Much lighter in style and stature than the 1996 Dom Perignon. A fantastic wine that unfortunately is a casualty to the order of consumption.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Ruby color. Pretty bing cherry nose. Tastes of raspberry, cherry, earth, spice and caramel. Nice depth of fruit on the mid palate. Refreshing acidity. Rich finish but not overtly complex or interesting.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Deep golden yellow color. Noticeable oak on the nose. Tastes of honeydew melon, lemon and pineapple. Conversely the oak is very well integrated on the palate. Rich with a very nice mouth feel. Possesses a very deep and complex finish. Quite nice.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Brick red color. Cherry nose. Tastes of raspberry, soy sauce, licorice and black pepper. A very nice core of fruit. Holding up extremely well despite being almost 25 years old. Still some unresolved tannins makes me thing this wine could go another 10 years easily. Quite rustic in style with very nice elegance and depth in the finish. Outstanding.
Dark ruby color. Perfumed floral nose of black fruit. Tastes of blackberry, currant, mocha and violets. Medium bodied. Great balance. Great depth and complexity in the mid palate and finish. Quite elegant.
Ruby color. Perfumed raspberry nose. Tastes of blackberry, blackcurrant, bell pepper and earth. Medium to full-bodied. Good balance and acidity. Nicely integrated oak and tannins. Good complexity with a very elegant finish.
Dark ruby color. Blackberry and caramel nose. Tastes of black cherry, blackberry and pencil lead. Fine grained tannins. Great balance. Rich and very young with good complexity on the mid palate and finish.
Dark ruby color. Blackberry nose. Tastes of black currant, violets, blackberry, cherry, graphite and earth. Full bodied. Excellent balance. Fine tannins. Incredible mid palate depth and complexity. Amazing elegance and complexity on the finish that literally lasts for several minutes. Young. Needs time. Simply outstanding. My personal WOTN.
Thankfully my second opportunity to try this wine. Dark purple color. Nose of flowers and red berry fruit. Perfect balance and freshness. Tastes of blackberry and cherry. Quite primary and closed down hard at this point in time. It is easy to see the huge upside potential of this wine. Way too young. 96 point now...possibly 100 with time. A big thank you to Jeff for sharing this gem.
