Flavors and aromas of a mature Bordeaux. Holding up well. Cedar, earth, tobbaco. Elegant and lovely.

Not bad for a new world Merlot. Sweet, mulled plums, spice and sweet oak. Not overdone, but a bit tiring for me.

Mute nose. Dry tannins. A bit lean, but in a good way. Some loamy minerals add complexity to the plum and cassis fruit. Nice.

Tobbaco leaf, minerals. Nice old world character. Good depth.

Relatively light in color. Sweet, confected fruit. Somewhat thin.

Musky. Seems to be showing its age. Cedary, but the alcohol is showing... like a hot Australian Grenache.

Chocolate, oak. Underfruited/Overoaked.

For its age, it held up well, but from a pure enjoyment view... it was a bit lactic, thin and lean.

Among a room full of Merlots, this did not look bad, but did not impress either. Average quality.

Ripe and sickly sweet. Sour sugar plums.

Fruity, with hints of bittersweet cocoa. Medium bodied, a bit short, but nice.

Not bad for a budget Merlot. Sweet nose, structured palate. Medium bodied, grippy, and nicely dry on the finish.

Inky dark in color. Nice curranty nose. Dense, good structure. Moderate oak. Very young, needs time, but promising.

Black fruits and minerals on the nose. Medium bodied. Good effort.

Nice new world/old world cross. Good balance of fruit, oak, spice and loamy soil notes. Medium bodied, but complex and light on it's feet. Never tiring and easy to drink.

Medium bodied. Peppery. A bit thin on the palate, but thankfully not overdone.

Stern, linear, but in a good way. Minerally in the finish. Somewhat French in style. Just wish it had a bit more in the middle.

Fat, rich and full of milk chocolate. Very new world in style. OK, for the style, but a bit one-dimensional.

Under-ripe. tart and shrill. Not much pleasure here.

Aromatic. Pleasant. Surprisingly accessable for such a young wine. Good balance.

Milky, loamy, a bit green. Some hints of spearamint. Not off-putting, but not my style.

Too much VA for me to get through to the fruit.

Very nice, although the fresh liveliness of this wine is receeding as it ages. Wonderful wine, but I would tend to drink this sooner, rather than later.

Drinking a nice structured Cab, after a bunch of sweet Merlots, was like a breath of fresh air. This showed strong currant elements with good density, balance and grip. Needs time, but showing well.

Rosewater, spice, lychee. Very dry, crisp and delicious. Cuts like a sword across the palate.

Rich, creamy, leesy and complex, with flavors of lemon, custard and yeast. VERY good acids keeps this nervy. Excellent.

2001 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 85 Points

Still holding on to life, but not all that interesting. Still juicy, but the fruit seemed a bit candied and slightly manipulated.
