Introduction

Tri weekly tasting at our wineclub. This evenings topic was different Champagnes from the Moet/Dom Perignon

Flight 1 - Moet house Champagnes (4 Notes)

  • NV Moët & Chandon Champagne Brut Impérial 85 Points

    France, Champagne

    Nose: Ripe apples, toast.
Mouth: Round, slightly bitter, slighty sugar/geast. Well blanced. Slightly sweat candy/apple aftertaste. Easy likable and well made Champagne, but no personality, complexity or intreresting structures. A bit to nice?

  • 2003 Moët & Chandon Champagne Grand Vintage 89 Points

    France, Champagne

Nose: Mineral, bitter, apple, sour swinesteak, lots of toast.
Mouth: Young, complex, rockandroll taste structure. Some citrus.
Closed, will develop over time. Could become a great wine, but enjoyable now.

  • 2003 Moët & Chandon Champagne Grand Vintage Rosé 85 Points

    France, Champagne

Nose: Underlying smell of wild sweet strawberries.
Mouth: Balanced bitterness/acidity, moderate taste of cooked strawberries, smoke, coffee and some spices from the integrated oak.
Would prefer the standard Champagne Grand Vintage compared to the Rosè.

    France, Champagne

Nose: Oysters, candy, slightly mineral, apple closed.

Fantastic bubbles small and many that grow in the mouth. Can drink now but will develop. Keep.

Flight 2 - Bonus flight... (1 Note)

  • 1989 Jean-Pierre Mugneret Echezeaux 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Opened this matured red Burgundy after the Champagnes were tasted. Frank bought this one at an auction in Munchen.

Nose: Leather, a lot of forrest, smoke, dried cherries and balanced sweetness.
Mouth: Cherries, slightly acid and bitternes balanced, smoke, grumsy, wide and some spices (cummin).
Complex, interesting, still very drinkable but not a great wine.
