Flight 1 (13 Notes)

  • 2004 Figuet et Fils Champagne Cuvée Pompadour 92 Points

    France, Champagne

Light yellow color and fine small bubbles. Masculine nose with intense notes of ripe apples, yeast and freshly baked bread. On the palate it is very juicy with fresh, green apples, squeezed lemon and on the midpalate some yeast and bread. Velvety smooth mouth feel but lifted by a very lively acidity. Very inviting and easy drinking.

  • 2004 Château de Callac Cuvée Prestige 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves

Dark yellow to golden color. Fat yellow plums, mirabelles, butter, oak and glycerin on the heavy nose. Similar taste of heavy yellow fruit, plums, and a buttery, oaky midpalate and finish makes it smooth and full bodied. Yet, there is a good acidity underneath, which keeps this heavyweight on its toes.

  • 1976 Château Léoville Las Cases 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Dark, browning color. Mature, slightly over the hill nose with notes of prunes, shoe polish, caramelized sugar and rust. On the palate it still has some sweetness at first, carrying a bit of prune and tobacco, but the finish is chalky and dry, indicating that this would probably have been better a couple of years ago. Fully mature and properly past its best, I would drink this up now.

  • 1989 Château Figeac 93 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Dark, slightly browning color. Showing clear signs of maturity on the rustic nose with notes of prunes, tomatoes and rust. Much more alive on the palate with exciting, juicy blackcurrant and picking up notes of cedar wood, tobacco and prunes. Lively acidity pulls the mouth water out. Overall a perfectly mature wine, that is delicious drinking.

  • 1986 Les Forts de Latour 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Dark red color with an orange hue. Rustic nose with notes of cigar box, blackcurrant and green peppers. Fine pure blackcurrant first and some shoe polish and iron on the finish. Lacking a bit off intensity, especially on the length, otherwise a fine and fully mature wine.

  • 2005 Château Cheval Brun 87 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Black color with a thin bluish hue. Primary nose with blueberries, blackcurrant and plums. Tight and hard on the palate with black berries, ink and some asphalt. Packing loads of acidity and tannins. Still very primary and a bit one dimensional.

  • 1971 Château Haut-Brion 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Dark brown, mahogany color. Prunes and caramelized sugar on the mature nose. On the palate it still has some sweetness and freshness, and it is still coming together with some prunes, tomato plant, brown sugar, shoe polish and iron. Seems to be waning out on the finish, but not chalky yet. Must be right on the turning point, where it will probably be downhill from now on.

  • 1987 Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 91 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

Dark red color with an orange hue. Sweet nose with warm blackcurrant fruit, mint and raisin. Juicy and sweet blackcurrant fruit on the palate, some cedar wood and mint on the midpalate and finish. Exciting and fresh, yet a bit one dimensional.

  • 1988 Château Cheval Blanc 94 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Dark red color with an orange hue. Concentrated and powerful nose with notes of blackcurrant, bush, wet forest ground and mushrooms. On the palate it is juicy and fresh with refined, pure blackcurrant, before picking up dried flowers, earth and undergrowth on the midpalate and finally some marzipan and prunes on the long finish. Very complex and refined, with fresh acidity that balances it perfectly. It remains delicate, youthful and delicious.

  • 1988 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Dark red color with a slightly browning hue. Complex and intense nose with intriguing notes of blackcurrant, prunes, pencil shavings, tomato plant and marzipan. Intense on the palate with a complex taste profile that keeps opening up for more, pure blackcurrant, licorice, tobacco, shoe polish and a bit of rust. The sweetness and acidity is perfectly balanced all the way through, and the intensity lasts for the strong finish. Drinking really well with great complexity and overpowering deliciousness.

  • 1994 Château Margaux 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Dark red color with a thin slightly orange hue. Very sweet nose with oaky vanilla, dark cherries, blackcurrant, marzipan and some orange peel. Powerful and intense on the palate with juicy, sweet fruit. On the midpalate it has some cedar wood and tobacco before ending with some vanilla. Great length and fine balance where the sweetness is carried by good acidity and still some tannins.
