  • 1993 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin 97 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

We had this one alongside the 1996. Très Bourgogne, très Rousseau. So young in the glass when just poored. Obviously more open than the 1996. Great wine, charming, sexy, open. It even evolved in the glass, but not so beautifully as the 1996. 19,5/20

  • 1996 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin 100 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

The winner of the tasting, this is greatness in the making. We had it alongside 1993. When just poored the 1993 outshone this wine, but after 15/30 minutes... Spicy, powerful nose. Such a development in the glass... this is truly great. It just goes on and on and on... This has incredible reserves, this is potentially so great. Perfect balance. Incredible complexity. 20/20

  • 2004 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

A little harsh, not green or unripe, but not the delicacy of the 1993 and 1996 we had just before this bottle. We had it alongside 2006 Chambertin by Nicolas Potel, compared to that bottle, this is obviously so much more classic. But also a little closed (although Rousseau domaine states this wine should be consumed young). I would (and will) keep it a few years more. 18,5/20

  • 2006 Nicolas Potel Chambertin 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Artificially fruit smell: strawberry, bright red fruit, nothing of the refinement of the Rousseau or even of what you may expect from a grand cru. The nose resembles a Beaujolais. It definitely gained in the glass, and will still when you are patient. So don't drink soon, though it will (I think) never come close to the class of the Rousseau we had alongside this bottle. 17,5/20

  • 2006 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Chambertin 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

When just poored a broad nose, great complexity. But it closed when looking at it. This wine all had it, but it was not (yet?) harmonious. I guess it has to integrate still. But it has everything available, probably the phase of the wine, keep it cellared a few years longer, then enjoy. 18,5/20

  • 2005 Camille Giroud Chambertin 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Great nose, class, civilization. And how it evolved in the glass! It started rustic, generous, round, but it became a little more reserved (it closed?), gained class. Beautiful wine, fine domaine. 19/20

  • 2002 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 97 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

After a few "other" Chambertin and Clos-de-Beze bottles, when having the fifth bottle of Rousseau it was "coming home". With all due respect for the other fine wines, this is as it should be, complete, transparant. Cool fruit, but so much complexity behind it. Great, it makes you speechless. Only outclassed by the 1996 Chambertin (also Rousseau). 19,5/20

  • 2005 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

Completely closed, hardly any nose. But the promise is absolutely there. It promises more, much more, but now "closed for business". Try it ten years or so from now, you will certainly enjoy it, but now everything is so much wrapped up, it reveals almost nothing. Hard to score therefore, the points are for the promise and this wine could end very much higher in a few years... 19+/20

  • 2001 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

We had this at a Chambertin and Clos-de-Beze tasting! It was a magnificent surprise. Flowery, mineral, fantastic lineair dry finish. Impressive. Just in its drinking window, it evolves in the glass. Great, bravo. 19,5/20
