In case anyone is interested in Col Solare (joint venture between Chateau Ste Michelle and a rather famous Italian winemaker Marchese Piero Antinori), Costco (at least locally here in WA state) is carrying the '05 vintage for $59.99..  Usually it's ~$75/bottle..

FYI...

Great timing Ron, rub salt in the wounds...Opened a '97 Col Solare a few nights ago, had found it lurking in my cellar when I put everything in CT

Alas, we mourn our fallen brothers, another dead soldier who's time had come. Past it's prime, couldn't drink.

I think CT has had the one great benefit of helping me find those wines that had eluded my sight, playing catch up on my drinking windows now...

Thanks. What do you think of the wine?

Personally, I love it.  It's a complex, well-built wine with great fruit, balance and a long finish...

If you look at my cellar, it's fairly heavy on Washington state wines.  This is one of many stand-outs in the state.  I wasn't partial to Chateau Ste. Michelle at first, being such a huge producer with multiple labels but I've been won over through the years by the quality of their wines.  As big as they are, they're very thoughtful about wine in general and take great care in crafting very good wines...

That's good to hear, Ron.  We're planning to go there on Friday 9/5 before the soiree at Eric's.  Probably straight from the airport, around noon.  Any other CT'ers interested?  We may get extra benny's as a group.

The Chateau is on beautiful grounds, you'll love it.  If you have a specific time that you're planning on being there, I would recommend getting a reservation for the "Chateau Terrace" tasting..  It's $15/pp, however the normal tasting fee is $10/pp and with the Chateau Terrace tasting you get a member of the senior staff that you don't have to share with the rest of the bar AND you taste 6 of their single vineyard and reserve lists.. Well worth the extra $5. Call 425-415-3633 and let them know what time you'll be there.  You won't regret it.

I should know Col Solare, since I live in Oregon, but I don't. So many wines to follow. I passed by the winery - it is visible from the highway - a month or so ago and it looks beautiful. It will be interesting to see if, or how, the wines change when their estate vineyard matures and the grapes are used in the blend.

I recently tried '02 Sandhill Merlot - I believe Sandhill supplies grapes to Col Solare - and it is excellent but, unfortunately, not available anymore. Open and plush with structure to age. Generally, I like what I taste from Red Mountain.

Concerning CSM, great place to visit.

Ditto on recommending the "Chateau Terrace" tasting.  We enjoyed one a couple of years back.  It's private, and the wines offered are more than worth the difference in price.  Highly recommended.
