ORIGINAL: pjaines For those that are interested, here is the full wine list from the restaurant. http://www.dehesa.co.uk/Resources/Documents/Dehesa%20Website%20Drinks%20Menu%20Aug%2008.pdf We had the Gaja 98, which was utterly gorgeous - although needs time in the decanter to open up. Also had the Vega Infante, which was a superb, rich opulent, full bodied wine for a cheap price. Highly recommended. Had a glass of the Joven wine - which was not so good. A bit woody and austere. Finally (and this was the bottle that finished me off) had a bottle of the Pittacum (I think). This was oozing with dark fruits and vanilla and other stuff that I was too smashed to remember. Paul's notes are right on the mark. He had the Vega Infante open when I got there and it was really a nice bottle. Find some and try it. I'm glad we had the Gaja early -- it was the second bottle -- we actually set it aside after a glass or two to let it open up. (We also moved it off the relatively small table we were sitting at because we were afraid we were going to knock it over.) I'd say it would last several more years. It really had a vibrant color to it and was fruity and crisp. The Joven was a bad mutually agreed upon choice in the middle of the Gaja -- probably a good indicator that our judgement was going south at that point. Of course, we definitely did not need that last bottle but since neither of us was driving we didn't really even debate it. It was the Pittacum and along with the vanilla it had some smoke and oak. It wasn't anything novel but it was a good bottle of wine that held up surprisingly well given its place in the line-up. Many thanks to Paul for really going through an extraordinary effort to get there and choosing an excellent venue. The wine, food, and scenery were great.
