Hi Eric,

In the "My Inventory" field (or whatever it might be called), there is a lot of space to the right of the bottle summary. Any chance of parsing that space to allow for a comment box -- similar to the purchase field? I ask because I do not use the location/bin system to describe where wines are physically; rather, I use the system to inventory my wines by region and sometimes vintage (e.g., Bordeaux-2005, Bordeaux-2001, Burguindy, Italy, etc), and I use bins to indicate region, appellation, and so forth (e.g., St. Julien, Tuscany, etc.). Some of my wines are in crates and some are in racks. The ability to describe where they are (to add an additional classificatory level without changing the structure of the system) would be very helpful. Moreover, it appears that this space is not being used, and it appears in the top of the description -- making it readily accessible. Now, I am simply adding a comment to the purchase, which works well, but, you know, it is out of place

This is more of a display/reporting issue than a database issue. If you go to the inventory editing screen there is already a note field you can edit for every single bottle. Basically exactly what you ask for. However, this is not displayed on the wine detail page, only on the inventory drilldown view for the wine or the individual bottle view of your cellar.

Eric,

Thanks (as always) for the quick reply. I knew that is was a display note, hence the ease with which I thought it could be done. I had forgotten about the bottle note feature, although as useful as it is, it is not particularly convenient because (1) you have to drill down and (2) often, the notes are off the screen to the right (at least on a 17" monitor with fairly standard fonts), so you have to scroll right. Using the unused space in the inventory field to allow some type of note would put a note (which could concern anything) in full view, immediately, when the main screen for the wine was pulled. If the space was being used already, then this would be a different matter.

Just a suggestion.
