Has anyone noticed that they have cleared wait lists for various allocations faster than expected?  I've had three wait lists that I've unexpectedly cleared in the past two weeks--one that I've been on for almost two years, which leads me to believe that people are ordering less, or not at all, probably due to the economy.

Also, one of the allocations I've been offered requires purchase of minimum quantities.  I'm not interested in purchasing the minimum.  What is a good way to find someone to split the allocation with you, when most of your friends think that $20 is an expensive bottle of wine?

Start by telling us what you want to share and you might get some of us to jump on board.  We had a thread about this very subject some time ago but I am still waiting for Craig to offer me some Kistler.

I am getting almost daily phone calls from my favorite wine shop with offers of hard to get juice that has previously gone to other accounts.  I may end up in the poorhouse, I just hope there's room for all the wine.  I have never seen so much Clos de la Roche available.

The allocation is from Dunn Vineyards.  They have a minimum six bottle purchase, and I only want three of the 2005 Howell Mountain release.  I'm in Central Florida, but could "hand deliver" anywhere along 95 between here and Central NJ.

Ah.. Dunn..  I almost joined their list but they sent me a little note saying that in order to join their list I had to purchase some of their library wines, all of which were available locally for less $ so I passed on them.  For the most part, I just stick to lists where I either really like the wine or it isn't easily available at retail shops.

Just got on Betz list today.  Wine Spectator predicted in the current issue (James Laube column) that lists would be opening up due to the economic climate.  I was wondering if it would happen to me and...ping!

Now what do I do?

Not even sure how many I put my name on in the past, but there are probably only two that I'd get excited over at this point, SQN and QC

At this point my hope is that those lists were predominately filled by hedge fund managers and bloated C-level show-offs that will drop off over the next year and let those of us on this board move up a year or two in our wait. At this point just hoping to move up, not necessarily get on the lists, that way when things turn around in my sector in a year or two maybe I will have an allocation come up that I can splurge on.

I received my Kistler (drank one in celebration of a recent election) but am not sure I want to give it to you anymore as you called it "popcorn wine"  and will probably just turn it over for a large profit.  annerk, would you by any chance be interested in sharing some?  I'm sure Rob wouldn't mind.

Actually, I have thought about this issue, and the problem is that we live all over the place and shipping wine is a pain in the arse (at least in my puritanical state).

Buy all you can!  Deb, I'll give you fair warning when I can make it to NY to offload or trade a few of your "extras."

The problem is you don't like Kistler either...what am I to do with all this Chardonnay?

Hmmm...perhaps I'll get on the Cayuse list now...

Just drop a bottle or two of nice olive oil in with the wine and then your conscience is clear.

CG,
Are you a big Betz fan?  I have already learned not to buy wine based on interest from 3rd parties (first Cayuse deal already fell through).  Buy what you like (and can consume) and save flipping for other folks.

I'll be giving the Betz some thought after I pay my credit card bill.

Craig, I notice you never offer to trade your white Burgs.  What is it with the Kistler!!!

I've only had one Betz, recently when I was in Seattle and liked it very much, but tomandlu has put aside 2 for me to pick up when I get the new cellar done.

Deb, my white burgs are my pride and joy, and I would never trade but will happily share.  My wife is crazy about them as well so it helps me keep a cellar, if you know what I mean...

As for the Kistler, I had a rather sublime experience with a '94 earlier this year.  They age very well...I would prefer, however, not to have to buy so many.  They are also big pleasers in my tasting group which tends to be Californophilic

There's always room for popcorn wine.  :)

I thought those were your daughters....

By the way, Betz never got licensed to ship to NY, so I'll be passing on those (they seemed almost apologetic).  Guess you'll have to share some of the Cayuse when you come to visit. However, the more I open these, the fewer "extras" there will be.....

Yes I suppose there can be various degrees of pride and joy...
