Aaaah, my favourite time of year for food and wine.

The weekend is looking like it will be a typical autumn weekend in London - sunny, cold and just needing some great autumnal food to go with it.  I was thinking that this time of the year is probably the best for eating great food and sipping hearty wine.

I'll be heading out to the food markets this weekend to get hold of some good mushrooms, probably some venison or other game and then probably spending Saturday afternoon in the kitchen cooking and sipping on some hearty, rustic reds.  it just seems so much more pleasurable at this time of the year to be drinking red wines.

Maestro - i remember 3 years ago I was in Piedmont in early November for the truffle season - seriously, i dont think eating and drinking gets any better than that.

Still high 80's here (30+ to the Europeans).
Didn't stop me having a great Beef Stew with Dumplings in the week!

And in HK - while we're not cold, the weather's changed and I now have to think about wearing long sleeved shirts so have just been compiling a list of Tuscan reds to buy for Autumn from our local Italian wholesaler.

Paul - you might have to change Autumn to Fall in the title unless you want to keep the thread old world!

I'll do what the English have done for hundreds of years - make everyone change to our way of thinking.

And damn you with your hot weather.

Well, the Confrerie du Tastevin is celebrating Autumn / Fall in tropical, uni-seasonal Singapore in true Burgundy style in a fortnight's time, with its annual Chapitre d'Automne de la St Hubert, a game and mushroom dinner at a nice French restaurant along with rather copious ammounts of decent Burgundy.

I will post my notes (if they are still readable) after the event.

The only thing I remember about Burgundy is that the Confrerie du Tastevin has never disappointed me.

Beautiful 74 degree Autumn/Fall day in Pittsburgh. Just played a round of golf with scenic red and orange foilage. Now the fun part, what do I pull out of the cellar? I'm thinking a white Burgundy while the weather is still warm then a big hearty red when we get the fire pit going.

Ah... somehow Burgundy and Autumn just seem to go together. I am thinking roasted goose, morel mushroom, truffles and lots of Pinot Noir.

Paul S - you hit the nail on the head - burgundy and autumn are a perfect match.  I would probably say northern itialian reds as well.

I'm sitting here at my kitchen table with a glass of cracking wine (Cullen from Margaret River) and munching through some truffled cheese and the sun is beaming down.

Tonight it is venison and probably some burgundy.

Tomorrow is a "French lunch" which is basically my friends arriving at mid-day and we end up eating and drinking till about 8 in the evening.  We've got the biggest collection of French cheese you have ever seen and truffles, game, mushrooms and wine will feature heavily.

I feel weight gain may be an issue this weekend.

Having another late fall in the midwest.  The leaves are still on the trees, and today it's nice and sunny with a chill in the air.  Beef stew sounds like a good idea.  This time of year I migrate towards Pinot and Bordeaux, although last night we shared a Barbaresco with dinner.
