Anyone know if we'll get an iPhone app version of cellar tracker? Sure would be nice! ;)

I'm sure a dedicated app would be helpful but I have to say that I constantly use CT on my iphone 3G and find that it usually loads fast and works flawlessly. It's saved me from plenty of bad decisions that would have otherwise have been very bad impulse buys. (Of course, it's confirmed some purchases as well.)

Well it won't come from Apple - thank god for the hackers.
My wife swears by her iPhone, if were down to Apple it would still be a brick (they don't approve of those of us in the UAE having access to the machine :(
She now does amazing things with it, sadly none to do with wine.
L.

PS  Any Apple employees out there I'd like to know what they have against us (maybe they couldn't sign up a suitably monopolistic supply agreement?)

Apparently (some?) of the new deals aren't monopolistic but have an exclusive period - that's what we've heard in HK - so am waiting for my provider to get it.  Am sure they're available again on the grey market but might as well wait a bit longer.

I guess timing is about not having enough supply, sure they'll come.

I've had one since the day they came out and it is the single coolest techie gadget I've ever owned. It had paid for itself in time savings to me within months.

One thing I learned after a bit was that if you are on a website you regularly use, like CT, you can click the + button at the bottom of the Safari browser and tell it to add it to the home screen. This then puts an icon on the screen just like the Weather, Stocks, Calendar, etc. As long as you have internet, CT is a single finger tap away.

I'm not sure there would be much advantage to a CT application other than maybe some way to download and access your personal cellar (for Speed purposes), because so much of the CT value would be in quickly looking up new wines at a restaurant or store which simply is a factor of internet access and web browser. I guess maybe an app to take tasting notes when not at home would be useful, especially if it could update them to CT without having to retype them.

The only noted quirk with the iPhone is since I've chosen to have CT Forum posts emailed to me, every time someone posts my phone vibrates and beeps. With the frequency Serge is firing off posts, this could be misconstrued as "remote stimulation" You'd think he would at least buy me a drink first...

Wrighty,
If you do buy on the grey market don't accept any Apple downloads - one fried my Wife's machine.
The good news is that it forced us to get the machine hacked back to life and now we have all sorts of good stuff Apple don't want you to have.
Scott,
I'll see if I can prise the machine way from the strife and hit the button you mention.
Tx,
L.

In case you missed it, the first iPhone Cellartracker app has arrived! I bought it and found it pretty polished for a first effort. Very nice graphics too. A huge improvement over the database/CSV approach.

Very impressive first effort. Just played around for a few minutes but I can see how useful it will be. Nice work!

I went legit and changed providers to get my iPhone and glad I did - how did I manage before!

Just tried loading the cor.kz app and it didn't work though. Will try again through the app store later

This is all very confusing to those of us without anoraks and thick glasses.

I know PBM was raving about his iPhone when I met him in London.

I'm just scared if I got one then it would be yet another excuse to buy more wine because I have access to on-line information.

The only thing you have to fear is fear itself. I actually think it's helped me avoid as much plonk as it has caused me to make a purchase. Seriously. I swear. Promise.

Really.

Very cool this Cor.kz application. I just bought it and I think it works very well for a 1.0 version

Got it downloaded and pretty good.  They seem to encourage feedback so will send some off once I've been using it more.

Paul - I'll show you the bright new world when we meet up in Nov!

Wright - no no no no no!  Dont do that.  I'm like a moth to a flame with things like that.

Plus my wife will probably poison you - she complains that I spend more time on CT than with her as it is.  I dont need another way to access the site.

Broke down and bought the cor.kz app for the phone, very good initial design but a bit buggy. It has a predefined search of your cellar by Region, so I selected Bordeaux and the first two that popped up were a Basel Cellars and an Andrew Will - Bordeaux Blends, but I hadn't heard WA state is now considered Right Bank...

I'll report this one and a few other oddities, as long as they work to fix them and take feedback from their customers it should be a good little app.

Just bought this one myself. Definitely has some quirks -- none of my Rhône wines show up when I view My Cellar by Region/Rhône, and Champagne and Burgundy show up when I have no wines from those regions -- but the interface is great and it seems to be heading in the right direction. Plus searching it is much faster via the app than going through iPhone Safari (and tapping and zooming and searching and zooming again and scrolling through tiny text...). I like Cor.kz.

Err, yes. The combination of an iPhone and CT isn't too social. I'm finding I use my iPhone for a lot of stuff I used to turn my PC on for so her obrium isn't total justified - honest!

Eric seems to like your App, that one good thing. I just hope you give a $$ cut to Eric as the real value is the data beind the App, not the App it self.

Can anyone guarantee that adding this application to my wifes cracked iPhone won't fry it again?
If any download from Apple is received it gets bricked.
Took a lot of hacking to get it working again (Apple don't sell in Dubai, but there salesmen kindly point you in the direction of those that ship them in from France).
I wouldn't be popular if the phone stopped - Mrs L. loves it.

Had a friend mention a new iPhone app, Drync Wine

Has anyone heard about it? Anyone know if it is also using the CT database (doesn't look like it, but I haven't bought it yet).

I'm pretty happy with cor.kz, but always curious what is out there.

I'm hoping cor.kz gets updated soon. There are a few too many bugs with it for me to be happy. None seem too insurmountable to fix though...

Make sure you go to their website and log the issues. I know it is a few minutes of effort, but I did this and they were resolved within the next update.
