I wanted to be able to visualize when I was drinking wine over time so I put together a way to get my CellarTracker consumption data into my calendar application. I'm using Yahoo Pipes, which lets you pull in data from the web, manipulate it, and then republish it as a feed (or in this case, in the iCalendar format).

If you have a CellarTracker account and use either Google Calendar, iCal on the Mac, Outlook on Windows, or any other calendar application that supports the iCal format then you can use the Pipe I created.

To try it out, go to: http://pipes.yahoo.com/tommyvernieri/ctconsumption

Run the Pipe and then click More options. Right-click on Get as iCal then click Copy Link Location or Copy Shortcut. Go to Google Calendar and click Add then Add by URL. Paste in the address you just copied and click Add.

Let me know what you think.

Tommy,

How do I add in Outlook?

Edited to say I figured it out -- very easy! Nicely done.

Sure, I'm not sure what you're looking for so here's the whole process.

Go to http://pipes.yahoo.com/tommyvernieri/f272de99b011945064d5461ca319c275 and fill in the parameters.
Click Run Pipe.
When the pipe finishes, click More options then right click on Get as iCal. Copy the link address (the exact wording of this is different in different web browsers, it could be Copy Shortcut or Copy Link Location).

Go to http://calendar.google.com/
In the bottom left of the page use the Other calendars section to add a calendar by URL.

Paste the address you copied into the form that comes up and add the calendar.

You should see your latest consumption records on the calendar.

This has elevated geekiness and on-line wine stalking into an art form.

This is fantastic.  I've found out what I am doing at work all day now....

Thanks Tommy

I wanted to see what the result of it was, i.e. your last image, before going to the trouble of doing it. Never heard of Pipes before.

Very clever.

BTW, you seem to be quite abstemious, there are many blank days on your diary.

You're telling me!
It's gotten worse, I had to go all the way back to August to find a month with enough wines on it so I wouldn't be too embarrassed.
