The clever design could save thousands of lives for those with frail bones by cushioning the blow of a tumble.
The device attaches around the waist of the user and detects inflates in just a tenth of a second if it detects an increase in velocity.
It protects both the pensioner's head and back and is set to save thousands in medical bills. It is aimed to be comfortable for the wearer, weighing just over a kilogram, so can be attached at all times.
