ORIGINAL: jhannah27 I too have only had a few Brunello's myself and I know nothing of classified or declassified (Maestro...a little help here ), but I just had a fantastic 03 Brunello that goes for only $27 retail at K&L ($22 as a wine club member). 2003 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino As for declassified Brunello wines in 2003, see this post. Whether or not they are declassified (from DOCG down to IGT) does not -- in my opinion -- make any difference in the quality. They should be a bit cheaper when sold as IGT, but I am not sure it is actually happening. Some people may even be willing to pay a bit more from one of the famous "Brunellopoli" wines. The 2003 Brunello wines are turning out to be seductive and attractive young wines. I don't think they will hold as well as 2001 or 2004, but they are very nice for consumption in the next 5-7 years.
