I have an idea.....

We have lots of "fertile" http://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?table=Users&O=Notes+DESC&Page=3

and popular Tasting Notes writers here http://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?Table=FavoriteUsers.

Why don't we all add something like
"To discuss this wine click here" in our TN's?

Tasting Notes use the same [ u r l = http :/ / blah-blah.com] convention as this board?

We can double participation and the inflow of the new ideas by just one simple link with every TN.

Never underestimate the power of your sig on the internet, mine so far, resulted in bringing over $50,000,000,000 to the screwed investors. I say we all can pull it off!

Sounds like a good idea.  Now, silly me, I just need to learn how to turn bolded text into a link.  Serge, can you help me?  Feel free to bill me  for your tutorial services AND your technical expertise.

I'll use spaces between the letters, don't use them when post.

to make bold ANYTHING just type

[ b ]blah-blah [/ b]

blah-blah will be the end result

as for the making link bold
put those [ b ] in the begining before [ u r l = h t t p :....]

and [ / b] after [ / u r l ]

Just remember - NO SPACES I  USED HERE!

what is the code to make the link part of the actual text?   Meaning that it doesn't show up as http://www...., but rather something like, "click here"

Making link is very simple.

NO SPACES BETWEEN THE LETTERS!!!

type [ u r l = h t t p://ct.com]free chicken in every pot[/ u r l ]

end result:

free chicken in every pot

This is a great idea! I was on CT posting tasting notes for months before I even noticed the little "Forum" link.

Not only is Serge a wine expert, but I think he knows even more about computers.

Must be good to be Serge!

apes, you'll be surprised how LITTLE I know about computers. My specialty the last 16 years were PEOPLE and their behavior patterns.

as far as "wine expert" is concerned, I know about wines slightly less what I know about computers.

Serge,

Great idea!  I've bandstanded (or, -stood ?) for a similar feature on a couple occassions.  My only question for you is: "What link do we put in our TN's?  The link to the CT forum, but not a specific thread, right?"

For my first time trying, I went with a little more conventional marketing.

Serge, J2,

Thanks for the replies.  I will attend to this matter tomorrow.  I think this is a great idea ... I just hope people take advantage of the links...

I'm still looking forward to a more elegant solution to this situation, but this will do for now.

Done.  It's going to take a long time to retro-fit this into all my TN's ... it will get done eventually.

An item you might want to consider is that if there are new people coming into the CT Forum from a TN link, they may very well be looking for a specific topic in the forum relating to the wine whose TN they clicked on.  Not finding one (perhaps), it can be a bit overwhelming to see all the chatter and variety of topics...

Perhaps what's warranted is an FAQ or some other topic posted to the TOP for "People who came to the CT Forum via links in TN's" or something like that...

I know for me, when I first starting looking at the Forum, it was overwhelming and the only thing that kept me going was my desire to get past the "Starting Tracker" status...

Niklas,

I think the phrasing you used is perfect.  I was also thinking of something like, "Want to talk about this wine more? Come to the CT Forum."

Good stuff.

I adopted the line somethign between J2K and Niklas and eventually change all my TN's to contain this line.

So, Serge, do you have to type that link in every time or do you have a way of copying it?

I don't want to crowd our forum with useless threads, but I think it may be a good idea for each of us who's adding such a link to have their own TN thread.  For example, my thread would be something like "grafstrb TN's Discussion thread".  I figure it'll only get knocked to the top of the list when somebody actually has something to say, so I don't think this would result in crowding the forum too much.  I'll be the first to do this (and, subsequently, the first to see their thread plummet off the front page!) ... we'll see how it works out.
