Good olive oil really is quite fantastic as well so I can't say that I will "forget the olive oil".

That's OK - I agree - but you voted for the wine anyway!

I was worried that St Tropez and Tahiti beach might give ''wine'' a  run for it's money ;)

I'll take "Quality of Life" over "Longevity"!

I have yet to dip my toes into the Med...  so there is a chance that might become a favored choice should I ever get around to doing that.

Definitely recommended! And after the dip, you can stop by the local vineyard and get some good wine to remind you of the clear blue waters...

erm, the wine itself should not resemble clear blue water...you get what I mean!

Serge, normally the wine drinking leads to sex in excess doesn't it?

There are two types of people in the world.

The first person, on their death bed, will say "If I hadn't drunk so much, hadn't abused myself so much with tobacco and alcohol and late nights and loose women then I might have had another 5 years longer"

The 2nd person will just think back to all the good times they had in their life, all the drinking, singing, excess and laugh their ass off.

I'm in the 2nd camp.

Vote yes to wine.

I watched a discussion on TV with cardiologist. He spoke about positive impact of red wine on heart's health and prevention of heart attack.
And then he was asked whether is it possible to replace red wine with red grape juice. And he replied: "NO! Red wine only!"

No Wrighty, you are just thinking like any normal Englishman.

More is better.  Especially if it is booze.

You can take an Englishman out of England but can't take the English out of him (or something like that)

Certainly true.

I seem to remember you drinking English beer in Tokyo, so in your case that is definately true.

Did you have fish and chips too?

It was Asahi but in an English pub - not my choice of venue.  As for food it was as much Sushi as I could lay my hands on!

Other culinary delights from blighty

Chips and curry sauce
Sweet and sour pork with chips
Pork pies

None of which would be high on a list of things I miss!

Most pubs in Asia seem to be Irish rather than English, now why's that?
There was a great one in Roppongi, but the name escapes me.
Cheers,
L.

I wonder if drinking good red wine helps you live longer than bad?
There's a test to conduct - I want to be in the "good" group.
