Status: offline 		I am in dire need of some cellar housekeeping advice.

I still have hundreds of bottles to add to the tracker... but before i get back to this task... it makes best sense to dust the bottles and racks as i go. A dusting wand is an obvious choice but it seems to me that all i would be doing is moving the dust to eventually settle somewhere else. A damp rag sounds like a better technique but then i don't want to risk the chance of muddying and weakening labels especially on the vintage. Maybe someone has discovered the ideal approach and/or product for a dust bunny killer rampage?

Status: offline 		Zippz,  I instruct my illegal alien housekeepers to use a special dry dusting rag that is specifically designed for piano and fine furniture.  It does great at keeping the dust on the rag and not just swirling it around and leaves no residue.  Should be available at a local piano store.  I, too, would be skeptical about label damage with moisture

Not sure if the bottles were cleaned first or if the actual performance did the job!

Status: offline 		fingers... if you could give your help enough slack in their chain leashes to hunt down the tag or wrapper of this magic dust rag... such info would come in handy and be greatly appreciated... if your too afraid they might run away, just know when you see me appear on you door step wearing a guy fawkes mask & birbrair tin foil hat... that i have come for more then your collection of precious bottles, i'm taking your help with me and enlisting them in the ranks of the 911 truth movement. As for your praise to be "back on topic", i have been consistently on topic and just as off topic as our frequent NWR posters... you were just too busy being emotional/irrational that you lost your 20/20 vision... i would image your blinders look more like a welder's helmet. So now thanks to your despot self, i'm a one-dimentional guy... sanitized for your dis-ease.

eric... unfortunately the shop vac i have, has an output/exhaust dohicky on it that would most likely  whip up a dust cloud behind me... though if i can find the right size hose extention long enough to have the vac body outside the cellar door... might just to the trick.

I'll have to rummage through the workshop this week
and see what i can find in terms of materials

i tink i have an idea for another invention....
that involves a cylindrical tube lined with dust wand tenticals
all pointing to the center and almost touching...
punch 3-4 holes spaced out evenly, tap them with pvc joint piping
from which i could hook up multipule tubes to a vacuum...
dipping the bottles with a little twist going in and out
of this womb of feathery suckers
i'll have a fun little specialized gadget to add to the portfolio
or at the least... have more "griss for the mill"
it's interesting what you learn tinkering with such projects

as for the racks i could just wipe them down with a damp rag
or better yet go with the mocamro laisse faire directive
and just wait until i have fingers help moved in

Status: offline 		Well it turns out that mr. fingers points in the right direction (only in matters of housecleaning i presume ). I asked a neighbor's cleaning lady what she would recommend for wine bottles and she handed me a set of yellow towels, she didn't know the brand/source but the tag reads "80% Polyester, 20% Polyamide, Rn# 79536, Made in China". They look like basic face wash clothes but they have a slight clingy gripping feel to them. Her advice was to keep one half of a towel slightly damp and the other half dry... idea being that you use the damp side more on areas that are harder to clean/dust. You can supposedly use them indefinately, provided you periodically wash them.

I found these miracle workers... the dust i had was so layered on some that it could have been read as a thick film of dirt. All the vacuum could do was pick up the occassional tumble weed along the floor boards. A bucket of water with a splash of pine-sol, sponge and mop did the works on the racks, shelves and floor. Cellar is actually starting to look loved... versus abandoned as before. Looks like my crazy idea was way over kill for this project, maybe more suitable for a huge liquior store outlet, or wine auction house?

The Sam's shelf label listed them as "Unitex" brand, but I did not see this name on the package.
The package states:
Detailing Solutions
by Sunset Products, Inc.
12 pack 16"x16" towels
They're Yellow and made in China.
Much nicer than the Concordia/Microtex towels.
All this for...$7.86 (That's 66 cents each)
