Am I the only one that looks forward to creating a dozen empty spaces in the cellar so I can get another case of wine?  It was only a month ago that I was 100% full, no more purchases.  But with some gifting to special friends, providing wine at my mothers 90th Birthday party, providing access to dear son and his thirsty fiance I have magically found space for actually two new cases of wine.  I have to be at a wedding in Portland tomorrow so maybe a quick detour to Dundee is in order, or perhaps Carlton.

Nice day in the Valley, the California smoke blew away.

Gosh you are good Duck 833! I'd love to exercise the sort of control wherby I could wait to create spaces in my cellar before buying this dashed addictive liquid. You CTs don't make it any easier, nor does red Burgundy!

Happy drinking!

I know what you mean - I look forward to having a chance to open bottles for friends, strangers, or almost anyone. Part of the reason is to clear space for new purchases.

My solution? I started sharing a locker in a wine storage facility with a few friends about 15 minutes drive away from my place. That solved my cellaring problem, but created whole new issues. Virtually unlimited storage space does horrible things to your wallet. On top of that I find myself driving to and from the warehouse far more often than I would like to.

I purchased a 500 bottle wine cabinet (le cache) last year and thought "I'll never fill this bad boy up."  Then came the 05 Bordeaux, the 04 barbarescos and some 05 oregon pinot futures came in.   yadda yadda.... just about full now. I actually look forward to giving a bottle away or bringing one to a friends house.  Not a bad thing really.  The wine storage facility is a Pandora’s box that would be a bit dangerous for me.

On that note, I've been told that you could add about 50% to the aging potential to a magnum vs a standard 750mL bottle.  This certainly affects my consuming schedule too.  Any one have any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

brandon

I am trying to clear space for my 05 Bordeaux purchases, which are held in storage until the oppressive Texas heat lets off (late October).  I generally don't stock up during the summer, so I have a chance to whittle down the collection.  I have space for 630 bottles and need to have about 60 more slots (up to about 20 now) for the remaining shipments.
