it's funny, I was trying to get on Joe's site yesterday, and I noticed it was down. is it really gone for good or just a temporary outage? Joe seemed really proud of his board (rightfully so), so it would surprise me if it was really gone forever.

ok, I'm at an outdoor concert right now. I will yank the references from the site when I get home.

what was Joe's motivation for taking the board down?

The board died and nobody was posting. I don't know why and what happened. I am out of it for a couple years now.

A Board approximates a living organism, what makes it live or die may be just too complex to analyse.
You could probably identify things which add strength, or sap it though.

It's not my place to do such a thing. If there are people who used to post on that board who would like to import their old notes here, I now have very nice import facility to take a spreadsheet and bring things in pretty quickly.
