This is taking shape pretty quickly, although I have no idea if this will be 50 people or 500. Here is what we know for sure:
  • Saturday, September 6th: UPTOWN HIDEAWAY
  • LIKELY, Friday, September 5th, BBQ at Chez LeVine? Number of attendees is more of an issue here since I have kids, neighbors etc. But could handle up to 100 folks pretty easily.

Status: offline 		Who is taking note of the official signup?  My wife and I will be attending for sure.  We'll be staying at The Camlin in downtown Seattle.  I think this is relatively close to other places and venues, despite the fact that I read somewhere that it is haunted.  As long as the ghosts don't drink my wine I don't mind a little spookieness.

As mentioned in the other thread, my plan is to be there. I will know better in a few weeks. I might be needed to present somewhere, but, think the chances are slim.

Status: offline 		I'm at the Comfort Suites on Roy Street, just a couple blocks from the Hideaway.  I know there are at least a couple others at the same place.

Now I just need to tell my wife what I've signed us up for...she's not a wine geek, although she enjoys an occasional glass of Reisling or Viognier.

Status: offline 		If this is the real deal, when do we find out what each of us has to pay upfront as an "admission fee" as it were?  I'm thinking of canceling my trip to Italy to attend, so want to make sure it's a definite go.

Status: offline 		Give us a few days to iterate with the caterer, but I am hoping to keep this relatively inexpensive. A lot depends upon how many people we get also (although the current function space we are looking at is not very expensive.

Canceling a trip to Italy though, sheesh, I love Seattle and all, but Italy is Italy...

I won't be able to make the Friday night get together. I was thinking about a Sunday night Northern Rhone-themed dinner at Rfesaurant Zoe, if anyone's interested.

Status: offline 		I spoke with Eric last night to get an idea about what this caterer has to offer, and it sounds as if they will be able to provide us with good food for a decent price.  I have been emailing back and forth with the caterer and hope to be speaking with her today to start discussing more specifics.  Since the caterer would be the bulk of the cost of the event, we'll have a better idea about what that would mean for you all.  As you know, the sky can be the limit for these events and I am really committed to keep the costs down as much as possible.  We may have to forgo the party favors

Oh, and to reiterate about the wines...We'll have to see numbers before we decide whether that is feasible.  It might be nice to just see what people bring...With all the wine out there I doubt duplication would be too much of an issue.

I have communicated directly with Tom Douglas Catering Co. about a general outline for food and budget and they are in the process of getting a proposal back to me.

One question.  Would we have servers to open and serve the wines or do we do it ourselves?  I'm ok either way but from a cost perspective would save lots of money with a smaller staff.

QUESTION:  I have a couple of friends who are big vinophiles, however despite my best sales job, they haven't taken the CT plunge yet.  Anyone object to non-CT users being invited?

Thanks for your offer.  We will likely need a few people the day of the event to help with set up. 

Advice about how best to get into town from the airport would also help those of us from out of town. 

Can't think of anything else now, but things are sure to come up.  I'm still trying to finalize my travel plans.  Got the time off from work, but my wife is balking at the cost of the trip (I am being gently persuasive but have had to sacrifice any new wine purchases through at least October, yikes).  Anyone interested in putting me up for a night or splitting a hotel?

My wife hasn't committed one way or the other yet.  I'm still prodding her to join me, but if she bails you're certainly welcome to split my room with me.  Pretty sure I got one with two beds...obviously I would double check that.

Update:

We have heard back from Tom Douglas Catering and are trying to tweak the menu a bit to keep costs in line.  As soon as we finalize that will have a better general picture of the cost of Saturday's event.

Eric,

Perhaps you could suggest a week long itinerary that would make a trip to the PNW (including the CT weekend, of course) worth the airfare.

My gosh, if you have a week you could go crazy!  Willamette Valley and Yakima Valley are each about 3 hours from Seattle (different directions).  So is Vancouver B.C.  The Olympic mountains...San Juan Islands...North Cascades Highway...even Walla Walla is a short trip by small plane.

Status: offline 		Hmmmm... Since I live here, I'll have to put on my "tourist" hat...    Agree with Matt... LOTS to do around here.

If you like fast boats, take the Victoria Clipper from Seattle to Victoria... Stay overnight at the Empress and take in the Bouchart Gardens and a little shopping in downtown Victoria never hurt anyone..

Of course, wine tasting within the region is a must... The Tasting Room down at Pike Place Market showcases about 4-5 different WA wineries (Camaraderie and Latitude 46 are my faves here).  If you like a bolder more in your face red, try the Hedges tasting room in Issaquah.. They have a Red Mountain red that will suck the moisture right out of your mouth...  This link http://www.washingtonwine.org/ will give you links to all the wineries in WA state by region (Puget Sound is where Seattle is, Yakima Valley is about 3hrs east and Walla Walla is about 4.5hrs east)

An overnight stay out at the Salish Lodge near Snoqualmie Falls is another treat...

More restaurants and dining experiences than you can shake a stick at... If you have a generous budget, treat yourself to THE dining experience at the Herbfarm in Woodinville.  Canlis in Seattle proper is also a wonderful experience as is Daniel's Broiler downtown Bellevue (21st floor of the BofA building).  Campagne down by the market is also nice...

So much food.. So much wine.... Such a good time....
