Guys - I am having the day from hell at work today.

Shame none of you are in London because I would seriously leave work at lunch at get stuck into some quality vino to make the pain go away on an all afternoon drinking session.

I think a good purge now and then on good wine is good for the soul.

Wasn't it you who mentioned Davy's?
Time for a visit.

I'll share a drop tonight in your honour.  The Laughter Factory is on at Crown Plaza.  May not aways be funny, but you can drink through the show, and the acts do seem to get better ..............................!

Colonel - I am not one for sitting in a wine bar on my own slugging down wine, but today could be that exception.

In reality I'm just going to have to stay in the office and bend over at take it from The Man this afternoon and just think about the money instead.

Still, at least the option is there for going to the pub - I guess it is a bit more difficult in Saudi.

I'm in Dubai and it's really easy going to the pub.
Tonight I'll be in Zinc -

You're right in Saudi they buy non-alcoholic beer and do some magic with it.

Sounds like you have a real prat for a boss - hope he doesn't sign in here.
I always worked out that I'd probably outsurvive anyone I worked for (in business terms that is - not suggesting you kill anyone), keeps you going through the tough days.
However stupid the company the idiots are always found out (unless they own the place).

I just think of the whacking great big daily fee I charge my client.  If they want me to sit there and be a gimp so be it.  I just think about what wine I will purchase with my ill-gotten gains.

A good purge on good wine...yep I concur. On occassion a Ctrl+Alt+Del is necessary, but good wine would be wasted for that!

So let's see if we all understand - he pays you a vast sum of money which you use to buy and enjoy fine wines.
All you have to do is pretend you have a limp?

Seems a deal many people would accept, have you seen "House"?

It's a McKenzie-Mueller Pinot Noir night in our house: grilled pork chops, locally made applesauce, steamed broccoli, tomatoes w/mozzarella/basil/olive oil/balsamic vinegar, and watching Obama clinch the nomination by destroying McFailin in the last debate. Paul, there will be a toast in honor of your crappy day added to the festivities.

Today is the last day in the US to file returns with an extension.  I got all my clients taken care of on Tuesday.

I think I will take the sports car out to King Estate for lunch, crush going on.  Nice sunny crisp day, lunch outside overlooking the vineyard, some nice 2006 Pinot Noir or Pinot Gris and a great road with lots of twisties before lunch.

Guys.

I knew I could count on your support.  I know who I can count on in my hour of need.

I am finishing up a coma-inducing presentation for tomorrow for my client then I am hitting the bar.

Thankfully England are playing football tonight so that gives me an excuse to sit and shout at the television with a stiff drink.

I will toast you all and curse my client!!!!

Will anyone look down on me for having a drink in Paul's honor at 9:45am?

Might have to wait until later...

I'll see your crappy client day, and up it with long drives and law enforcement issues...

Paul and I are in the same line of work, and appear to be cosmically linked as I had 10 hours of tedious presentation yesterday that almost resulted in me yelling at the client to please decide amongst themselves how it is they run their business and let me know when they are done bickering so I can finally make a business recommendation.... Same sentiment though, as long as they pay their bills, I enjoy my wine hobby. And Food. And a house....

To add to the futility, as I was embarking on a 350 mile drive to my other client this morning, I casually glanced at the Police Officer that I passed on the highway, then realized I was doing 70 in a 55 zone. Yup, Red and Blue Rollers in the rearview mirror 2 minutes later. The good news is I did not get a speeding ticket. The reason for that is that when he ran my credentials, he found my vehicle tags to be 10 months out of date and I was apparently driving on a suspended license (Note: This was all news to me, and very peculiar since the Suspend date on the Oregon license was listed as two years ago, and I had moved to Washington 5 years ago and have held WA license ever since. Some stupid Computer glitch). He said "Technically I'm supposed to Impound your vehicle and arrest you, but...since you have a valid WA license and this doesn't make sense to me, I'm just going to site you for the $500 in fines and ask you to expeditiously try to figure out why your driving records are so messed up...Have a good day."

I still have 6 hours of driving to reach my client for tomorrow, and I can think of no better way to end the eve later tonight with a few stiff drinks. The Bordeaux last night was pleasant, but I'm thinking tonight may be a Gin & Tonic or Scotch night...

Cheers Brothers!

Only 70 in a 55 mph zone?  Jeesh.....in Chicago people go that fast in the bike lane.  Sometimes I forget how strict they are in Oregon and Washington.  Enjoy your self induced stupor everyone....I'm off to my 2nd job.

Well the taxi didn't make it - "Dubai Transport the finest taxi service only a call away".
Eventually got to the comedy club along with a hundred others, too late for food.
No seats, and a general zoo ensued.
So demanded my money back and went to Wagamuma's for a belated dinner - Chilli Chicken Ramen.
A glass of cheap Aussie shiraz, which for some reason tasted great.
Went home earlyish - toasted you guys in Vodka.
Checked the NYSE - looked very sad, so finished the drink.
And with that I say.
Good Night.
L.

Almost always good to be alive Colonel -- given the alternative.

Paul, you were toasted with the McKenzie-Mueller 2004 Merlot...we finished the 2002 Pinot too quickly. Here's to a better day tomorrow...for you and the stock markets.

Well, considering it was a winding two lane mountain road between Corvallis and the coast, I think 70 was pretty impressive...you probably don't have too many logging trucks on the highway in Chicago either, LOL.

Note to DUCKS and anyone else who has lived in OR... According to the DMV, you are required to notify the OR DMV if you change address, even if leaving the state. You see, it wasn't enough that my voided license got returned to them 4 years ago, that only updated the system for Active Licensing. The system that tracks your insurance requirements to your vehicle is not integrated to the license system, and thus when it determined I hadn't reported renewed insurance info (why would I have when I didn't live there...duh!) it filed a suspended license notification to the law enforcement agencies. It has now been cleared up, but clearly a SNAFU situation in DMV land...

Went for the Margarita tonight...the bed is calling now...

Chaps,

Good morning.  Never has a hangover felt so good!!!!

Two large glasses of Rio Alta 2004 Rioja at a tapas restaurant, then 6 pints of Guinness, a couple of whisky chasers and about 20 cigarettes at a bar watching the England football match and venting my spleen with a project manager.

My head is fuzzy, my mouth tastes of stale booze and stale cigarettes and I feel great.

Hollowine - great story about the Police.  For a moment I thought you were going to be banged up in a cell with some big old grizzly called "Bubba" who took a shine to you.

Paul - Glad the hangover's a good one, no mention of food though, seems it's becoming regular!

Guessing you were in Swindon I hate to think where you ended up watching the football.

Hope the presentation goes better today with the hangover than the prep went without it.

Wrighty - Indeed it was in Swindon.  Went to the tapas place for some good wine - they have changed their list a little bit.  I did actually eat too.

They do have a Tondonia Rioja in there for £47 - not sure what vintage - I might have a little look later tonight.  In the name of research of course.  I've had Tondonia rioja before and it is quite different from the vanilla and oak flavours you get with modern Rioja.

The presentation was a nightmare by the way.  Slide 1, point 1 and already the client was moaning.  I think my general body language and demeanor was saying "Shut up, let me go back to the pub - it is was my fellow CTers expect"

pbm - sometimes when you are in the mood you just can't help but drink a few pints of Guinness.

Although with hindsight the whisky finished me off.

The problem is that I forgot I was going out tonight for a glass or two of wine with some other friends so I am guessing tonight will be a tame 1 glass affair with my tapas.
