The tasting note! (apologies as I am much better at drinking than writing...) ========== Capsule removed, cork pulled with ah-so, seems to be in perfect shape. Poured very cold (for safety!), this bottle nice and clear in the glass, light orangey-carmel. Allowed to warm a bit, nose of sour burnt sugar (yum), not really any fruit, maybe just a hint of intensely overripe apples or peaches. On the palate aggressively tart, very concentrated. A few small sips later some balancing sweetness emerges, it really tastes a lot more 'interesting' than 'awful'. I really can't think of a food this would especially compliment, perhaps something like a lightly sweet quiche or one of those soft cheeses with fruit mixed in. The warmer it gets the sweeter the palate, but upon swallowing it's almost all tart, with sourness on the edges of the tongue. Amazingly there is genuinely nothing revolting to report, this wine is far from vinegar, Presumably redeemed by some significant residual sugar at bottling, maybe also some light tannins as it is made from a red-wine grape. Serving suggestion: obviously a dessert wine, present lightly chilled in small snifters (to allow warming but underplay the off-putting nose), along with a digestive cookie, prefereably to seriously pre-lubicated guests!
