So, admitting I have time on my hands and tend to be a little anal (better word?) about some things, I came across a problem today, which led to an idea. I currently have an inventory of almost 300 wines, all stored and inventoried (by bins) in a wine cellar. While checking my inventory on CT I found that I have (according to CT) a couple of bottles in the same bin number. Now that is obviously impossible, but instead of correcting the problem I have decided to locate the misplaced bottle and drink it. So, I think I will try and do an inventory check once a month, and when I find an error, I will open that bottle that night. Should make inventory day a little more fun.
Well, maybe not if it's too young

I've done that on a few occasions.  A couple of times it was a cellartracker glitch.  it seems that when I used to track front and back it would not sort properly.

I used to track using a system of 01A2 for row 1, column A, back.  When I would sort, it would mess up.  I now onit the last position and all is fine.  I suppose I should have mentioned it to Eric, but didn't.

A couple of months ago I was reorganizing my cabinet and found a bottle of Vieux Chateau Certan down in the bottom corner that wasn't anywhere in my inventory.  It was like getting a surprise christmas present.

I love those type of surprises.  I have found that I have more of some wine than I thought I had.  The last time it happened was with my 96 Montrose.

Those are good problems to have. I hate the opposite... where you think you have one bottle of something you love, only to find out that you don't

Haha, yes! My last accident was a good one - thought I had drank all my Dead Arm 2005 up save for one solitary bottle that I am saving, but I found out that I have a pair instead.

So am I the only one that has to use the "Missing and presumed drunk" option then?  For the wine that is...  I hate using that one, but at least it makes me smile when I have to.

Nope, you're not alone.. I've used the "Missing or presumed drunk" option a couple of times.. Once when I was pulled out another bottle, I found one of the "missing or presumed drunk" bottles.. So happy to add it back to inventory!

FWIW, I have an excel-based macro that I got from another CT member a couple of years ago that assigns my inventory based on bins.  I use a similar method that Blue Shorts described (mine goes 01A-F (row 1 column 1 Front))  and then I have a count blank/non-blank function that tells me if my inventory count matches what I have in CT inventory.

Works well for me and keeps the "missing or presumed drunk" items down to a minimum...
