Seems there are three wineries using the name LUDDITE, one each in US, Australia and South Africa and they have got confused on CT.

The US winery is named
Luddite Vineyards

The South African and Australian wines are both listed on CT under plain Luddite. I can't find the details of the Oz winery (however the label image used on the Oz wine is the same as with the USA wines), but I know the SA winery and although just the word Luddite Shiraz appears on the front label, the winery is properly named
Luddite Wines (source John Platter Guide)
so

1) I suggest that the SA wine listed under Luddite http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=269158 is moved to a new entry Luddite Wines.

2) A further complication is that for the 4000 bottles exported to the USA, copyright problems meant they were labelled under the owners name as 'Niels Verburg Shiraz'. And there is an entry for the US labelled wine http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=220193

I think this should be listed under Luddite Wines with 'Niels Verburg' as the Designation

Confusion doesn't even being to cover it.

The US one is fixed as Luddite Vineyards.
The SA one is Luddite Wines and I followed your suggestion as to how to handle the Niels Verburg Shiraz. I had wondered how this got resolved.

The Australia one is a complete mystery. Niels Verburg did make wine in Australia at one time and I am wondering if the 1999 (before the 2000 1st vintage of the SA one) is his and the other ones are mistakes that should be SA. It also apppears that the Luddite 1999 was a one-off by some Aussie and it is pure coincidence that Niels founded Luddite Wines in SA in that year.  Regardless, I am sure enough for the post-1999 vintages to be bumped into SA.

The Grenache-based Saboture only seems to exist in CT and Winebid!

Thanks,

A.

Two years later, but....

I met Niels Verburg today and quizzed him on this. He did not make any wine in Australia under the Luddite label. .. although he is quick to point out that his (SA) Luddite is exported to Australia and is on sale there.

Mebbe someone assumed that a Shiraz on sale in Oz couldn't be anything other than an Oz Shiraz :)
