Someone asked me to post about this (I had mentioned it in another thread).

US entries are arranged through Marathon Tours and we had two bus loads of people (not all running,
I brought my wife and folks and there were people there who thought the whole thing was interesting).
The average day on the tour was breakfast, followed by a chateau tasting, followed by lunch (with several
wines), followed by another tasting, followed by dinner.

Perhaps our only hitch was that year the pre-race pasta party got too large, so they kicked out the
Americans, Swedes and Germans to a satellite site (Chateau Batailley).   The problem is the caterers
there really underestimated how much pasta marathoners could consume the night before the race and
couldn't make it fast enough.   But we all had a good time, consuming bottle after bottle of 5e Grand Cru
wine and eating bread.

I ran the Marathon du Medoc in 2004 (their 20th Anniversary).   Because of the 20th anniversary (and
since a lot of people did so anyhow), it was obligatory to run it in costume.  Mine was a rather tame red
crab shirt and shorts and crab hat (and some face paint).   There were people in everything from fig leaves
to complete Marie Antoinette costumes with wigs.   The race starts out under a giant human mobile made
of drummers sending things off through the streets of Pauillac.  The race runs through quite a few chateaus
with tastings available.   It also has stops for things like steak, cheese and oysters.   In general a 26.2 mile
long party.   At the finish line you get a nice microfiber vest, a medal, and a wooden commemorative box
with a bottle of wine (the winner gets his weight in wine).

The next day is a 9K recovery walk where your admission is a plastic testevin that you use as you stroll
through a few chateaus, stopping to drink, eat, and listen to music.

I'd highly recommend it.  It's a great trip for winos with a running problem.

I guess you didn't break the 3 hour barrier then?

I think with all that booze I would be lucky to get round in 24 hours
