Is it me or the lack of controversial discussions is taking it's toll?

I enjoy a good controversy and argument more than most but I have to admit it's nice to escape to a place that's a bit more civilized than the outside world tends to be these days. Between the wars (Iraq stupid, Afghan necessary), the financial meltdown (nobody in power should escape blame), and the American election (profound disappointment in the tactics used by the right and Obama's unwillingness to admit to the reality of spending cuts) there's no shortage of issues to put me into a flying rage. For me, boring is good place to be right now.

Controversy good.
I'd just draw the line at personal abuse.
Eric has his own agenda which is obviously only to do with wine, so only controversial wine news is acceptable.

social networking is an interesting science.  This community is largely her because of wine but once your here the tree begins to sprouts and the leaves develop their own personalities.................the type of leaves give the community its color..............and interest..............but other worldly topics can show that their really is differences amongst the leaves and some have grown on other branches of the tree......................but what binds us is the tree.....................the wine.

Personally i like differences and controversy....................what i dont like i dont repsond to even when provoked.  If someone really wants to know what enhances my leaf they can ask....................if they dont like it they can leaf me alone................

That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out opinion.

and how do you differentiate between "they can ask me" and "they provoke me"?

"Which magazines do you read"?
is this "Getting to know you" question or
"Gotcha media" question!?
:)

And now to what I was thinking..........

Can we have at least one thread (or maybe two) where like minded people can discuss other stuff that wine takes us to?

Sure, as long as it doesn't get personal. I get enough personal abuse in real life (and unlike pjaines, I'm too reserved to vent about it on the net. Good for you Paul!), this is a kind of peaceful oasis in virtualdom for me. Like pbm said, boring is sometimes good.

A bit of controversy on this forum is great.  I just don't like to log on every day and have to deal with cyber nutcases...and I think you all know what I am referring to.

one day we will yearn for the quiet "good ol' days"

I really hope this board doesn't devolve into the childish mess that is WS's board.  So far it hasn't come close ... I like that.  It's nice coming here knowing that there won't be any peevish ignorant a-holes to ignore.  (although Serge sometimes tries to be peevish, and is clearly ignorant, we all know he's really a lovey-dovey softy)

That is exactly why I enjoy this board and could never see myself frequenting the others.  Your mentioning of Serge reminds me of the urban myth that surrounds him--I can't remember where I first read it--about him chasing a burglar out of his home butt naked.  Man, if I had some naked crazy Russian chasing after me I think I'd have a heart attack

Isn't the response the exact opposite?

So can we all hang signs saying:
"Serge Lives Here"?
Cheaper than buying a Rottweiller, or a burglar alarm.

Actually, Colonel, my response was veiled to not be personal.  I support this forum as it is vibrant and relatively friendly.  I think most would agree that things had taken a wrong turn.

Serge, I thought it was on this forum, but perhaps you drew me into your other forum...Was it your wife who was trying to "correct" the story?

I'm going to stick a sign on his front door " DO NOT FEED THE SERGE!"

By the way, anyone who drinks wine is not a true, red blooded, god fearing, gun totting American.  That is my contribution.

Budweiser is the highest life form.

I want to walk into a bar in Nebraska wearing a beret and ask for a little glass of red wine.  French red wine.  I wonder how long I would last?

Never do this to a can of beer

It will get warm and explode

Not as long as it took to type that post...in Nebraska or any other "red" state.

What about if I am dressed as an English Lord of the Manor?  I'll order a gin and tonic instead?  Maybe that will buy me another 10 seconds?

Ten seconds less more likely. You probably wouldn't make it from your Smart car to the front door of the bar.

A Ford pick-up would run you over before you were able to even get out of the "car."

PBM - LOL!!!

next time you are in Paris or London I will make sure Hertz give you a Hummer and we will see how you get around those city streets.  And when you have to pay about $10 a gallon like we do here, then you'll understand why we have those tiny cars.

I remember the first time I came to the US and rented a car - it looked about as big as the 747 I'd arrived on.

Vorsprung durch Technik
