Anyone heard of this grape? Google searches aren't yielding much, and I just drink a deeply strange wine that claims to be almost 50% Pietro Piculo: http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=423355.

Bu no discussion on the grape - I wonder if it might transalte into english as something else......

I think it's really a strain of Nebbiolo. Maybe Maestro could find out?

It is more often spelled "Prieto Picudo". There is a small wikipedia entry on it.

As far as I know it is a strain of Tempranillo itself, and has no direct relation with Nebbiolo.

There is also this interesting review of a 100% Prieto Picudo.

Looks like even when the grape is translated/spelled correctly, it's still pretty obscure. Thanks, all, for digging up some info!
