Don't understand points?  Ever wonder if people are trying to impress by rating half their wines at 100 pts?  If all you really want to know is "do others tend to like this wine or not" when deciding to buy a new wine , try this rating scale instead:

1. Shee-kow!   I would sell your soul for one, sweet glass of this pure nectar!

2. The bomb!   It is so good your eyebrows unavoidably raise in reflection of your joy when you take that first swig.  Save for yourelf and select VIPs.

3. Good stuff!   You like it, your friends like it and you resolve to buy a case or two for when your real wine drinking buds come to visit.

4. Not bad.      It's ok, fine to drink with riff raff, like when your cheapskate neighbors "drop in" for a drink when they see you out on the deck drinking the Good Stuff and come sniffing around.

5.  Yack!         Nuff said.

I admit that your scale has a high "Fun" factor, but it is about as likely to be adopted by CT'ers as a proposal for world peace at the U.N.

That's more a statement about us wino's than about your idea

I hear you.

Saw another post that was even more simple, forget who...

I will buy again or I will serve to my ex-wife.

And if they consumed a few more bottles of vino over at the U.N. they might have a chance at the peace thing, at least during wine tasting events!

Earl, I've been using this sytem with great degree of success for the last 4 years.

I can see how it would work.  Between you, me and anyone else who reads this post I cannot see how anyone can possibly see a diff between a 95 and 96 rated wine.  it is sort of like womens gymnastics.  even the worst ones get at least an 85.  And all the great ones that are 94 and above are pretty close.

even if you could do it everyone has a diff palate.

Earl, our system also takes in consideration something all other systems do not:
the VALUE and price of the wine.

For us 100 points wine at the price of $1200 a bottle is not a brainer. Wine collectors and speculators is another story, they do need those 100 point systems.

LOL, that is an excellent analogy.  To me, anything above 94 could just as easily score 99 in better company, or better weather, or with better food.

We could even do a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" like the film critics Siskel & Ebert came up with years ago.

This might be a probalem I saw lots of others rating wines with wine glasses as mascots.
How about "member" IN the glass?
I don't think anybody uses this one, thus no copyrights infringements issues.

Points are required to show your station and to clue you in on how to react to the wine when you taste it in the company of others.  The suggested list is more than adequate to me.

Personally i'm going with a buy again/not system and trying to keep some notes on flavor just to see if my taste changes over time.

Would VERY much like a 687EELL 28ga. but it's not in the cards right now.

Had a BPS 28ga and agree with many that the 28 is as easy to hit with as the 20 given appropriate targets.
