Temperature and humidity monitor - 7/22/2008 1:51:33 PM

I'm moving into an old house that I think has great potential for a passive cellar. However, I would like to monitor and log the temperature and humidity for a couple months before setting it up. Any recommendations for a relatively inexpensive and easy to use device that can monitor and log temp/humidity over time? I don't need anything that interfaces with my computer or is accessible through the internet. Thanks.

I think there is a thread on this a while back, but here is what I use.

I am in the midst of a year long monitoring program in my basement.  This was relatively cheap and incredibly easy to use.  Every couple of months I get it and  plug it into my computer (in the docking station for my iPod shuffle of all places).

Now that's a cool device.  Thanks for the link.

They would have had a sale if they didn't charge $13.50 to ship something that actually costs $3 to put in the mail.   Bastards...

At least there's probably no tax, so that'll save you almost $7.  Just make pretend that the company is in California and the shipping is $6.50

Yeah, kind of a rip off, but the "gadget factor" really hooked me, and if it saves me from buying a wine cellar, then it's money well spent.

Here is a link to the graph it puts out (modified slightly by me).

And here is the thread about passive cellaring...

Google: Thermochron One-wire

The Thermochron is a temperature logging device, a little button that sits in a USB holder. You can download software that triggers it and reads it. Basically, you set it on a "mission" to record the temperature every 60 or 240 minutes, or whatever. There is also a logging humidity sensor, but temperature is probably main thing

It takes a little futzing to set it up, which is no big deal if you are a computer guy; if not, maybe more than a little futzing.
