Let me know how the Corton goes - I have a few bottles available from my Rhone merchant at 20%, who somehow happens to be the sole distributor for Bouchard in Singapore.

I'm particular chuffed at my purchases today:

William Fevre Chablis Les Clos 2005
William Fevre Chablis Vaudesir 2002
Tenuta di Trinoro IGT 1998

William Fevre is of course owned by Bouchard - so 20% on those two bottles as well. Lovely.

Glad you made the detour and I hope it was worth your while.  Sorry about the Lumpp--it's pretty popular.  Get on the list for next year.

Ricasoli Castello Brolio 1997 Chianti Classico
Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta Rennina 2000 BdM - in my Italian mood this week.
Robert Chevillon Les St Georges 1er Cru 2004 - have been eyeing this for some time. I used to like 2004 Burgs, but some of the recent ones I have tasted are rather suspect. Bit the bullet and bought this. I think he's by far the best prodcuer in NSG, hope it works out.

Thanks for the comfort - really! I was not too sure about 2004. Very shaken after the last few bottle I have had from a couple of producers' Grand Crus tasted rather green.

Only in tasting events Serge. Would not dream of touching my stash. Still, one or two green streaks are enough to make me fear for whatever 2004 I've got.

In preparation of the August (or is that august?) tasting event.  Found all these at The Wine Exchange

2005 Peter Lehmann Shiraz The Barossa

2004 Moccagatta Barbaresco Basarin

2004 Finca Allende Rioja

2005 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir

2003 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino

2004 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape

This is all your fault, Maestro!  At least, that's what I'm telling the wife.

Absolutely!  And, again, I shall lay blame squarely in Italy.

Keenan 2003 Mailbox Merlot at $41, and Keenan 2004 Mernet (50/50 cab merlot) at $59.

I haven't tried the Bordeaux blend yet, but the merlot is just amazing. Parker gave it a 93, but it clearly beat it up on a 2003 Januik (Washington State), which was pretty darned good in itself. WA's Rovani gave the Januik a 94. My judgement is that Parker underbid a point, while Rovani overbid 3 or 4. But, I did get the Januik for $20, which is a steal. The Keenan is probably too jammy for Serge, but I enjoyed drowning in the layers and layers of berries, licorice, chocolate, vanilla and nice tannin.

CT and winebid show that those prices were great. Also, you can't always get some of these more premium wines if you aren't on the mailing distribution. My local internet wine shop here in Colorado (Primovino) frequently lucks into these 20 - 30% off deals. I've discovered that the smaller shops are willing to pick up odd cases, whereas the local big-box liquor stores work on volume and don't bother with a small allotment. The bigger stores move so much inventory that you only find current distribution-year offerings.

I'm thinking that the sweet spot for quality (but not boutique) US wines is the $40 - $70 price range. For Spain it is $20 - $40. South America $15 - $20. Maybe the US can't quite compete with Spain or SA, but with the decline in the dollar, US Cabs, Merlots, Pinots, and Bordeaux Blends, might be a better QPR than french wines.

Well, best wine I've drunk in the past month?

2001 Viñedos de Páganos Rioja El Puntido: http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=92204

Flavors exploding in the mouth. Modern style tempranillo but less cherry than usual. Instead Current, sour cherry, vanilla, spices, long aromatic finish. Plus, a definite whiff of tar like you get in Barolos. AND, enough acid that this went super-well with lasagna.

Having absolutely given up on Bordeaux for 2007 (well for now anyway) I've gone back to fill in gaps in my 2005's.
Bought these eight Chateaux.
Some nice cheaper wines in the list:
  • 2005 Château Lalande-Borie
  • 2005 Les Hauts de Smith
  • 2005 L'Esprit de Chevalier
  • 2005 Clos du Marquis
  • 2005 Château Camensac
  • 2005 Les Tourelles de Longueville
  • 2005 Château Saint-Pierre
  • 2005 La Réserve de Léoville Barton
Pretty sure you can get many in the US at better prices than I paid.
    L.

PS  For UK buyers Farr have extensive stocks of all these.

Fingers - looks like you'll have to go shopping again, unless you'll settle for 2 bottles.

Am in the process of trying to get the wines for the August tasting.  Have followed Pjaines to Theatre of Wines for these two:
2005 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir
2006 Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe Nebbiolo
And asked for a half dozen recommendation so have added these.
    Dom. de la Commanderie £10.20
Xavier Guillaume Vieilles Vignes white £12.80
    Rainer Wess riesling £10.20
Xavier Guillaume Vieilles Vignes red £13.50
Ch. de Villeneuve Saumur Champigny £10.20
    Feitoria Tinto at £7.50
    Dom. Boudau from Rousillon £8.50

Also some how bought 6 Bottles of Woodlands Chloe Reserve Chardonnay 2007 I'd order before and got the 2005 delivered instead and also the 2004 Gralyn Cab Sav today which makes up my quartet of 2004 Cab Sav from a small area of Margaret River (Moss Wood, Cullen, Woodlands and Gralyn).  We visited MR in 2004 and it's also my daughter's birth year so all the wines have a personal connection as does the 2007 Chardonnay as we visited the day they picked the grapes.

Still trying to get the other two wines so more to come!

An additional case of 2006 Leoville Poyferre.

Bordeaux is much easier to buy than the four we've been told to track down.

There is still no penalty for reviewing the other 22 wines from the list.
I would encourage Maestro to embrace anyone's reviews on any of the 25 wines for the weekend.  CT WILL NOT OPPRESS!  REVOLT!  STAND UP FOR THE CELLAR-CHALLENGED!   IT TAKES A VILLAGE!   Whoa,  wait a minute...   where is this going, dude?

Hey Maestro, how about posting the overall results of the voting?  Surely,  4th or 5th place isn't so bad.

Bought 2 bottles of Duval-Leroy's 1996 Femme de Champagne at cut-price. I really have to stop, having burst my budget for this month AND the next. All my retailers somehow conspired to have their sales in a space of two weeks.
