Since I've a limited budget, and have only been into wine for a few years, I've yet to taste a truly "mindblowing" wine. I'd have to say the "best wine I've ever drunk" is probably the 2002 vintage of "The Maiden". It was amazingly smooth, rich, complex, powerful, yet still elegant all at the same time. However, I must say that my very recent experience (3 weeks ago) with a 1995 Gruaud Larose surely opened my eyes to the possibilities that finer Bordeaux has to offer (I can only wait for the days when I can afford to buy some of the big boys (1st growths) -- I'm thinking Ducru might be my next step up, price wise, or perhaps Las Cases.) After drinking the Gruaud I just had to go buy another, which I plan on sitting on for at least another 2, if not 10, years. All that being said, the bottles I'm truly looking forward to popping in a decade or so include: '04 Beaucastel and Clos des Papes, '05 Clos de Papes, and my '04 Numanthia. There are others too, but each of those aforementioned bottles will await a special occasion. I suppose my other '95 Gruaud Larose will be rather enjoyable too .
