Colonel
With all of your activity with CT how come you have not post more tasting notes? Everyone seems interested in what you have to say.

Fair question, I've been asked and answered it before.
I'll try and do a better job here:

1.  I've been seriously collecting for only three or so years: as long as I've been on CT.
2.  My wines are predominantly 2000 and 2005 Bordeaux which I will not open for many years.
3.  The vast majority of my wines are professionally stored and hence not in my house.
4.  They are nearly all in cases and hence I'm loathe to take an odd bottle out (although I do).
4.  They are stored in Wiltshire, UK and I am in the Middle East (UAE) most of the year.
5.  I'm very sceptical about non-blind tastings, I can almost feel myself willing my Lafite 1995 to be great.
6.  So even though I have a substantial cellar it is for the future.
7.  I'm like everyone esle here I guess I drink my odd bottles and on special ocassions open something special.
8.  I normally only write a note if I take the "Tasting" seriously, and I confess 99% of the time I just want to drink and enjoy my wine.
9.  I only write notes when I drink without food (just bread and water)
10.  So taking that all together I haven't written that many notes.

I expect that in the fullness of time I will write a lot more and share them here.
It is worth noting that I have done enormous research on Bordeaux, especially from blind tastings, and I share this information on board.
The final indignity is that my wife has a far better nose than me (in more ways than one) and I'd like her to write some notes, and so far she has only commented verbally.

Hope that's all understandable, I fear I may have sounded like someone who has drunk more wonderful wine than I have.
My best experiences (again difficult to note) have been extraordinary Farr Tastings in London (Pavie 2003 et.al. )

Roll on 2010 when I've promised myself the 2000's will be touchable!

I have a fair number of the 2002, none yet opened.
I was fascinated by the 96 given by WA against the 86 from WS!
CT's 94.3 (93-96 in 4 notes) clinched it.
Looks like Harvey Steinman is out on his own (well I hope he's wrong).

Sadly the budget only stretched to Mouton in 2005.
But surely Margaux 2003 and 2000 are worth a shout.

Been pretty quiet here.
I guess finding that best ever bottle is pretty tricky.
Surely some of those newer to wine will be hitting some superlatives?

Another tough day at the office I can see.
Tonight is curry night at home, usually paired with Singha (Beer), but they've just dropped it in Dubai
(there's only two chains A&E and MMI)
But I've made the switch to Cobra (beer, not the bile that Wrighty and Paul no doubt partake in), not in the same league, but will make the meal authentic (Cobra is a must in UK curry houses having beaten Kingfisher for the top spot).

Indeed - another tough day at the office where the phrase "how do you expect me do 8 days work before tomorrow" comes to mind.

Cobra - good stuff.  And now on general sale as draft beer in pubs.

As their advertising slogan said "Beer in pubs?  Who ever came up with that idea?"

The UAE (sadly) has a different slogan.
You can have it done tomorrow (which never comes of course).
Then you can have it redone, when the fix didn't work.
And finally
"Do it right the third time"!
Amazing the reputation we have with this going on.
Thank god Samsung did the worlds tallest building, not some of our lesser builders.

Wasn't surprised we chose Man. City.
Well maybe Spurs would have been more embarrassing.

I'm going to be even more vague as the best wine I ever tasted was a very expensive (for me) Valpolicella, at a very nice italian restaurant in the west end after having been to see Chicago. It was all a present from my daughter and I wish i'd taken note of that wine. There were times at that table that night when everyone just dissapeared in my head. You know that feeling when you have a great wine and you just lose yourself in the experience, .....or is it just me?

Got onto IT projects today and work and mentioned this to great amusement - it's so true!

Suggestion was to do it as three playing cards and tell the client to pick two!

1999 Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore
2001 Lafite Rothschild

I have some ageing that I think will be better than those.

When it comes to Sauternes, can you get better than the '01 d'Yquem?  Now, I've neve actually tasted the '01 but this seems to be the benchmark Sauternes from a benchmark vintage.

1900 D'Yquem is the best white I have had............1967 is right there too.  The older Sauternes have secondaries that make the wine superlative

This is going to make me sound stupid but I will ask anyways.
I can understand how and where one would go to buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini. However, it is puzzling to me, given I have the $, where I would go and buy a 1900 d'Yquem! I suppose when I am in the market for one (if ever), I would know?

In all that I have read, "the experts" all talk about the 2001 as by far the best of the best.
