Pavie.....I checked the display at my favorite wine store on Saturday -
all Pavies after 99 are still there, very slow moving items.
http://winewatch.com/?Search=pavie
despite the relatively cheap prices.

If Latour is your poison,
here is something for your cellar:
http://winewatch.com/?Search=latour&ProductID=2633

I had this wine few months ago and I'd never pay the asking price for it, but the collectors have the logic and reason of their own.

Latour is not one of my favorites.  I like Margaux and that is the one I go for.  99 Pavie is drinking well now.  I had one today infact.

For someone who has never actually tasted either Latour or Margaux, what qualities make you prefer one over the other so much?

This makes two of us. I was rather disapointed at Latour Vertical Tasting.

Latour is said to be a smooth velvety wine.  I have never found that to be true for my palate.  The yrs when it was made in the backward older style I particularly did not like it all.  Since 2000 when they began to change  bit for the market the wine has gotten better but who wants to drink a first that early?  Margaux always has a fantastic nose and is smooth becuase of the tannin profile.  I think Margaux has more cab in it most of the time and this is another factor for my palate.  I also alwasy get crush raspberries and lead pencil and cherry from Margaux and I am fond of all that on my palate.  I'm not saying Latour is not a good wine its just my least favorite first.  I have had some good ones in my life but they never moved me like a 1900 28 2000 or 05 Margaux.   I'd take a Yquem over Latour every time.  I have never had a bad Yquem.

Lawerence your collection is semi serious.

Pavie Princess collection is very serious.

IF you are going to collect get somthing other people will recognize.

Yquem, DRC, Margaux Petrus Le Pin Lafite Mouton Cheval Blanc Ausone Latour Pavie (after 98) Krug, Grange, Screagle, vintage port in great yrs, Tokjai are some of mine.

This is the route I am going for.  I also added Mouton for the labels.  I dont like Mouton taste compared to other first growths.  My favorite is Margaux, than Latour, than haut brion.  I cannot afford DRC and Petrus or refused to pay over $1000 for a bottle of wine.
I am going to collect Tokaj Essentias.
Why not Bond, Harlan, Colgin, Sine Quo Non, Henry Jayer, Quilceda Creek
If money wasnt the problem I have all these wines in verticle in my seller

Its all about what you could afford!

I only collect these in away to show off to my friends in Asia,  I agree these wines are the bomb.  But in reality I like to drink wines that are under $50 dollars that taste good.  My friends who think they know wine (all they know is 5 first growths)  with their wine fridge filled with Petrus, results in me buying wines listed earlier.

So buy what you like, and what makes you happy.

I recommended Chateau Corbin and Issan after looking at your list, you might like the taste of these, big juicy wines.

RP had two 100 pointers...........and since he is the dominant market mover for Bdx that is all that matters for the market.  Suckling moves nothing but air and some magazines.  Tanzer is more conservative and no one in the USA market really cares about the European critics for many reasons.  None of them move the North American market.

Parker reamed the First Growths in 2005.  There is no question in my mind.  I believe statistics prove it.  I did a fairly simple analysis of Parker's first and super second scores back to 1982 and compared the average scores for those top wines to the overall vintage scores Praker assigned for that same vintage.  Statistically, 2005 was so far out in left field compared to all other years that it (IMHO) could not have been a coincidence. Parker rated the 2005 Vintage OVERALL at the same average rate for the 12 or so firsts, super 2nds, and the top St. Em's and Pomerols.  The vintage and the top 12 wines or so averaged the same 98 pt score.  Has that ever happened before with Parker?  No, not in 20 years.  Has it ever been close? Nope, not even close.  The average spread between the overall vintage scores and the average scores for the super select wines was 7 points.  Sometimes it exceeded 10 points.  It was never lower that 5 points.  And it's zip for 2005.  Not right.  Margaux 2005 for Vintage of the Century!

You obviously like collecting things that are rather difficult to find.
I'm looking for things which will become tricky to find (but be in demand).

Big enough to be invited to star in the movie. Size does matter and I understand your motherly concerns.

Your boy appears to be quite the straight shooter.  I am concerned, however, for the young bride below.  Does she know what's ahead?

Can you believe one wine critic  has deleted this post I started on his board in new thread caled "Aqua Vitae"?

I wonder if his age has something to do with that, spring chicken he is not.
