A list of some of those nearby hotels would be great.

I just spoke with the Uptown Hideaway and September 6 is a definite "go" so we're on!

I'll work to try to get a list of some Hotels to make it easier over the next week or so.  I welcome anyone in the Seattle area to help in this regard as you know the city better.

Liability will not be a problem. I will be getting a list of agents from the venue, and it is not expensive.

Next step...the caterer.  Uptown Hideaway has used Tom Douglas before so they know the space.  I'll start there...

Right off the top of my head, less than a block from Uptown Hideaway (and about 15-20 minutes on foot to my home) is this one:
Comfort Suites Downtown/Seattle Center601 Roy St.
Seattle, WA 98109-3160

I bet if we get a group together and throw the CellarTracker name around a little we could get into some of the "less accessible" wineries in the area...

I'm trying to decide whether to break the weekend to my wife before or after I have booked my flight

Ok, she knows about it but only in an abstract sense at this time.

Rates are presently $169-179 at the Comfort Suites.

Just booked my room.  Remember it's a holiday weekend so deals are not so easy.

I thought the holiday was the prior weekend actually.

Looks like the Yankees are in town that weekend. That will bring a LOT of New Yorkers, although at the rate the Mariners are going these will be truly meaningless games.

That's right - Labor Day's the 1st.  At any rate, I've got enough reward points with Comfort so I'm in anyway.  Woo-Hoo!

Eric, my wife and I would certainly be interested in this, plus it's a fine excuse for a visit to Seattle. Considering the popularity of CT, am I the only one thinking this could easily turn into an extremely large and impersonal gathering, rather than a casual social event? It doesn't necessarily bother me if this happens (although I don't know if the world needs another ZAP-like cattle call), but it would certainly shape the character of the event.

petitblanc, to be honest, I just have no idea what to expect. But we seem to have critical mass. And I can promise you, this is about the nicest time of year to visit the Pacific NW, and there will be plenty of great things to do besides just drinking wine, and even with just modest use of technology we can help connect people with each other outside of the 'main events.' My hope is that in this first year we end up around 100 or 150 people across a few low-key events. If it looks like it's going to be a lot bigger, well let's just burn that bridge as we get closer.

I'll ask Lisa about internet access.  She is emailing me the contract.  Imagine--simulcasting to Dubai with the Colonel.

Once everything is final, I'd be interesting in shipping my contribution bottles overnight via UPS.  I'd hate to ask Eric to accept delivery at his house.  Hopefully the venue personnel would be receptive to accepting deliveries a few days prior to our arrival.

cgrimes and I have had a few PMs about this.  I personally am definitely in favor of putting together our wine list (what each is bringing) prior to the event.  A group rate at a hotel would be great, but not necessary.

Sorry if I have repeated what others have already said.  I literally scanned the last couple days posts in about 20 seconds.  I've been busy away but am VERY excited about this!

Better to choose London (maybe near Heathrow) for a small internet connected group and then you get more people and some of my wine, (remember it's not in Dubai).
If it's definitely on I probably could move my itinerary to be in UK on Sept. 6th.

1 per person and possibly a reserve?  If  BBQ takes place I'd want to bring something to that as well.  I'd say no theme--just bring a bottle worthy of the occasion.

Brilliant!  I'd have to leave something like that up to the techies amongst us.  I have NO experience in these matters.

I think one bottle per person is fair, as some folks will be dealing with hefty air fare, possibly.  My, this post sure got animated since yesterday!

You'd be surprised how far 1 bottle per person goes.  Many glassy-eyed veterans could be observed at the EWS anniversary.  Spit buckets are mandatory, but I didn't see a lot of spitting considering the spoils...

(Full disclosure...they cut an anniversary cake, and I have no recollection of even seeing the darn thing!)

P.S.  Did you notice a new category, "Mega Tracker" was created for the Colonel?

I'm revealing my ignorance here, but I'm curious--what is the EWS?

Just received the contract for the venue.  She mentioned there is also a Hampton Inn which is 1 block from the Uptown Hideaway.  I checked rates and they are also $169/night.

EWS...Executive Wine Seminars http:/www.ewswine.com
The link will work if you type it manually

The Colonel has mentioned them as a source for some of his buying recommendations.  Basically two guys (Howard and Bob) who hold regular tastings in NY and also do private events.  Been doing it for years.  Their 25th anniversary gathered together their members in a memorable BYOB at Tribeca Bar and Grill.  I wish I remembered half of it (see prior post.)

If we have enough Europeans willing to meet in London on Sept. 6th to run a simultaneousevent, then I'll make sure I am available.

But we need to have critical mass, otherwise the Colonel and I will get seriously drunk...

GintsO, Wrighty, NiklasW, Pontac, Aulus, Greybeard, urga, premiercru1973, nwinther, loli, and others... Anyone interested?

Although we have to take into account that there is an 8 hour difference between London and Seattle... Means our party would be almost over when the actual party begins in Seattle! Or then we start at 2 am

Well, I will have to bow out on that date, daughters Bat Mitzvah. Hope the event goes well. I will have to open a special bottle to celebrate both events.

Well, it's been a wild week on the forum.  Eric, thanks for keeping all in check.

Just a quick update.  I have heard back from the caterers but have no details yet.
I'll be sending the contract and the deposit on the Uptown Hideaway next week.
