bgibbard -> LCBO Vintages Releases (5/7/2008 6:28:52 AM)

For those of you who shop in Ontario, I've created this public tagged list of wines from the upcoming 10 May 2008 Vintages release, with prices and page numbers. This includes the In-Store Discoveries (ISD) which don't appear in the release booklet, but do show up in small numbers in the larger stores around the release date. It's intended to be a complete list of all the wines in the release, but it wouldn't surprise me if I've missed one or two. If anyone spots one that is missing, let me know and I will add it.

Brant,
This is excellent.
Thanks for doing this.

Richard

bgibbard -> RE: LCBO Vintages Releases (5/7/2008 7:11:51 AM)

You're welcome. If there appears to be interest I will try to continue doing this for the upcoming releases every two weeks, but I can't always promise to have it finished before the release date, although that is my aim.

GregGH -> RE: LCBO Vintages Releases (5/9/2008 12:51:13 PM)

Hello Brant

Really appreciate your extra time to list the in store discoveries with an IDS in the LCBO # -- makes it very easy to search and spot ( using Mac Safari )

Out of curiosity - for 112 wines -- how many where NOT in the data base at Cellar Tracker ??

Regards

Greg H

bgibbard -> RE: LCBO Vintages Releases (5/10/2008 6:11:25 AM)

Quite a lot this time. I don't remember the exact numbers, but it was definitely higher than the usual proportion. Probably because this release seems to be heavily skewed to less expensive wines, and those are less likely to be the sort of  well-known "collector's items that are likely to already be in the database.

bgibbard -> Partial listing of the May 2008 Classics Catalogue (5/13/2008 5:55:44 PM)

http://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?table=Tag&iUserOverride=1273&List=2008+May+Classics+%28incomplete%29
The above link is a public tagged list containing a very, very partial list of some of the wines in the May 2008 Classics Catalogue from the LCBO, including prices, CSPC numbers and page numbers from the catalogue.
I very much doubt I will ever have time to include the complete catalogue, but I will keep adding to it as time allows. For starters here are all of the red Bordeaux, and more types will follow later, time permitting.

bgibbard -> 24 May 2008 Vintages Release (5/21/2008 7:02:17 AM)

http://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?table=Tag&iUserOverride=1273&List=2008+May+24+Vintages

This is a list of the May 24 2008 Vintages release, including the In Store Discoveries (ISD). It is intended to be complete, but I may have missed one or two, which I will add if anyone points them out to me.

GregGH -> RE: 24 May 2008 Vintages Release (5/21/2008 4:10:15 PM)

Hello

sure hope we have not burned you out just yet --looking forward to the June releases ...:-)

Pleasezzzze .... I really like this to help confirm what I am buying way too much of ... now I need more racks ... :-(

Greg H

bgibbard -> RE: 24 May 2008 Vintages Release (5/21/2008 8:11:04 PM)

Well I would have been creating any of the wines from the release missing in CT anyway. Making a whishlist out of them is a bit more work, but not really very much extra over what I was doing before in any case.

GregGH -> RE: 24 May 2008 Vintages Release (6/3/2008 4:16:10 PM)

Hello Brant

Bump on thread --anything new on the tag lists for june or july releases?

Greg

GregGH -> RE: 24 May 2008 Vintages Release (6/3/2008 4:18:26 PM)

ahhh posted question too quickly --see June 7th list

http://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?table=Tag&iUserOverride=1273&List=2008+Jun+07+Vintages

Maybe we can make htis thread a common p[lace to find the latest taged list for LCBO ..?

Thanks

Greg

bgibbard -> RE: 24 May 2008 Vintages Release (6/3/2008 6:13:26 PM)

Yup, I'm actually working on it right now. Because it isn't complete yet (still have Spain and the ISDs to add) I hadn't made an announcement yet. I should be finished sometime tomorrow. And yes, it is my intention to post announcements about new lists in this thread.

bgibbard -> RE: 07 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (6/4/2008 6:53:55 AM)

The tagged list for the 07 Jun 2008 LCBO release should now be complete (including ISDs):

bgibbard -> 21 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (6/17/2008 6:12:45 AM)

A tagged list for the 21 Jun 2008 LCBO Vintages release (including ISDs) is here:

rbazinet -> RE: 21 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (6/17/2008 8:16:35 AM)

Excellent, thanks again.
Brant, have you tried the 2000 Finca Sobreño Toro Selección Especial Reserva in a previous release?  Looks like the CT community is enjoying the 2004 Quinta dos Aciprestes Douro Tinto.  At that price, I will have check it out.

Cheers,
Richard

GregGH -> RE: 21 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (7/4/2008 1:49:55 PM)

Hello

Again- THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for the work in doing these lists -- I find it very helpful in what I choose

Coupling the power of the data in CT and the LCBO releases -- neat ...

Greg

bgibbard -> RE: 21 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (7/5/2008 6:42:30 AM)

You're very welcome.

Doryman -> RE: 21 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (7/7/2008 4:22:13 PM)

Brant:

Are you familiar with the LCBO stores in downtown Toronto? If so, which is the best for wine selection? I will be there later this week and hope to pick up a few bottles.

Thanks!

bgibbard -> RE: 21 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (7/7/2008 4:36:50 PM)

The two really big ones are The Queen's Quay store, right down on the waterfront
http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/jsp/storeinfo.jsp?STORE=217&language=EN
http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/mapquest/map.jsp?latitude=43.6432&longitude=-79.3721

and further north the Summerhill store, north of Bloor
http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/jsp/storeinfo.jsp?STORE=10&language=EN
http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/mapquest/map.jsp?latitude=43.6811&longitude=-79.3910

Those two stores will definitely have the biggest selections downtown.

rbazinet -> RE: 21 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (7/7/2008 7:25:55 PM)

I second that.  Furthermore, the Summerhill store has at least 50 bottles available for sampling at any given time.  Two samples per person, of course.

bgibbard -> RE: 21 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (7/7/2008 7:59:29 PM)

Actually we have a tasting facility at Queen's Quay too, but it's not quite as large as the one at Summerhill.

Doryman -> RE: 21 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (7/8/2008 3:32:17 PM)

Thanks very much for the info! I get in tomorrow afternoon and have time to kill until Thursday morning. I intend to hit up the Queens Quay outlet and see what that brings. It should be a nice walk from Richmond & University. The LCBO website lists a great selection of wines. I intend to browse the Barolo and Amarone and am on the lookout for some particular Bordeauxs. I think I know now how women get excited about shopping :)

Cheers!

rbazinet -> RE: 21 Jun 2008 Vintages Release (7/9/2008 6:33:04 AM)

Brant,
I noticed the selection at Queen’s Quay is a bit unique (in a good way).  Do they shelve products from the “Classics Collection”?

Doryman,
Enjoy your "trip".  I will likely be down there tonight.

Richard

Yes, quite a few of them (as do Summerhill and several of the other big stores). I know that we placed an order last week for some of the remaining items from the most recent May Classics catalogue, but I'm not sure if they've arrived yet or not.

bgibbard -> 19 Jul 2008 Vintages Release (7/15/2008 7:46:26 AM)

A tagged list for the 19 Jul 2008 LCBO Vintages release (including ISDs) is here:

rbazinet -> RE: 19 Jul 2008 Vintages Release (7/15/2008 8:16:36 AM)

Thanks again Brant.  That 2006 Inniskillin Vidal Icewine seems to be getting good reviews and is very reasonably priced.

Richard

rbazinet -> RE: 19 Jul 2008 Vintages Release (7/15/2008 8:17:17 AM)

Any idea when the next Classics Catalogue comes out?

bgibbard -> RE: 19 Jul 2008 Vintages Release (7/15/2008 9:38:18 AM)

I haven't heard anything definite, my guess would be a catalogue in the mail later this month with a submission deadline in August, but that is pure guesswork, I don't know that for certain. I don't know if you or doryman made it to Queen's Quay last Wednesday, since I was on the tasting bar that day, not working in the Vintages section, but our store's load of May Classics did arrive that day, and is all out on the shelves now.
